We are looking for creative individuals who want to shape the Atkins Decommissioning, Waste Management and Radiological Protection service offerings on a global scale. Successful candidates will be based out of our Rutherford House (Whitehaven) office delivering high hazard decommissioning working as part of a multi-discipline team. Responsibilities for the role will be focused around those detailed below, there will be an expectation to support other team members outside this specific discipline where the need arises. There will also be potential opportunity for national and international travel for the right candidates.

Purpose of Role

The Site Engineer is accountable to the Site Construction Manager for ensuring contractors employed on a Client’s site execute works in a safe and timely manner. The Site Engineer is responsible for reviewing and accepting, method statements, safe systems of work and all relevant documentation.  

Key Duties/Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Understand and adhere to all relevant information from the HSE, British Standards and European standard etc.
  • Understand, implement and follow the Construction Design Management regulation to ensure compliance.
  • Understand Atkins company procedures/ instruction which affect their work.
  • Review Contractors Site Safety Plan and Safe Systems of Work thus to include Risk Assessments and Method Statements. Chair Pre & Post Job Briefs to include Safety Toolbox talks.
  • The Construction Co-Ordinator is responsible for Organizing, Supervising and Managing the on-site Contractor works
  • During all works the Construction Co-Ordinator shall work closely with the Client, Design Authority Representative, Project Manager, Construction Manager and Project Planner to ensure the project is delivered to cost and schedule.
  • The Construction Co-ordinator will be responsible for chairing Stakeholder meeting for the generation of the Safe System of Works 
  • The individual will be responsible for regular inspection of Contractors activities, to ensure compliance with the approved Safe System of Works and compliant with the Nuclear Site License for Command and Control of Contractors On-Site.
  • The preferred candidate will need to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the correct procedure to follow when a contractor does not comply with Health & Safety and/ or their Safe System of Works.
  • The Co-Ordinator will be responsible for the generation of Technical Queries throughout the lifetime of installation works 
  • The Construction Co-ordinators will be responsible to produce Daily Site logs reporting directly to the Construction Manager and Project Manager of all Site works.
  • The individual needs to be able to demonstrate clear and concise communication skills.

 Authorisations

The post holder will be required to achieve various authorisations in order to carry out the full scope of the role. 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

The main purpose of the Person Specification is to ensure that transparent and consistent criteria are applied for selection purposes.  Individuals being considered for this role must therefore meet all of the essential criteria reflected in this person specification.  In exceptional circumstances, where the individual does not fully meet the qualification criteria, demonstrable extensive experience will be taken into account, provided that their technical competence is assessed by the relevant Function as ‘suitably qualified and experienced’.

Essential

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING

  • IOSH Managing Safely
  • IOSH working Safely
  • CSCS Experienced Technical Supervisor/ Manager or Occupational Supervisor 
  • EC&I Engineering - Minimum of an HNC or equivalent
  • Experience and knowledge in the Nuclear Sector.

 EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE

  • Relevant experience of managing or supervising construction activities
  • A thorough knowledge of the CDM Regulations
  • Sellafield Site geographical knowledge and experience

Desirable

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING

  • HNC / NVQ level 5 or equivalent experience
  • NEBOSH General or Construction
  • Mechanical Engineering - Minimum of an HNC or equivalent 
  • P4 pass holder  
  • SC Clearance
