Insights A Graduate Career in Infrastructure

Meet Tom, Graduate Quantity Surveyor.

A rewarding and motivating journey

After finishing my Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering in September 2019, I joined the graduate programme at Faithful+Gould.

After my initial application and a non-technical phone interview, I was invited to the assessment day at the London Nova office. I prepared myself as best I could for this assessment and was offered my desired job in the infrastructure team.

Flexibility, with no limitations or bottlenecks on opportunities

I applied to Faithful+Gould because it is one of the industry's most highly-regarded consultancies. As a result of the organisation's great reputation and experience, I've had opportunities to work on high-profile projects such as High Speed 2 and Crossrail.

The organisation is also helping me discover which sectors and projects interest me. During my first year alone, I was able to work on innovative technologies across nuclear, highway and rail. I also can choose to specialise or continue experimenting and trying new projects.

Giving my career in Quantity Surveying the best possible start.

Faithful+Gould's graduate scheme supports the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Assessment of Professional Competence (APC). It was one of the biggest reasons I wanted to be part of the programme.

The graduate programme ensures you're gaining experience in required areas, with regular Q&A and mock interview sessions in preparation for the final Chartership assessment. Thanks to the experienced team, graduates always have support throughout the APC journey.

Supported to thrive

At first, I was nervous about starting in the world of work. But I quickly realised the team was incredibly friendly and eager to make me feel welcome. The practice is made up of hard-working professionals who will do everything in their power to support a colleague who needs help.

My time on the infrastructure team has also been a lot of fun. Social events are always on the horizon and are a great way to relax and bond with colleagues both in infrastructure and the wider organisation.
