Your role

As a Software & Digital Engineering placement student, you'll play an important role, supporting the delivery of software on a variety of exciting projects in the UK and abroad. Get involved in projects across Airports, Nuclear & Power, Aerospace, Defence, Energy, Environment & Geoscience, Transportation and Water. You could be involved with developing facial recognition, verifying nuclear power plants' safety shutdown systems, and supporting teams with digital transformation.

Where could you work

Aerospace, Defence, Security & Technology (ADS&T)
Industrial year locations: Birmingham, Bristol (London  - closed for applications)
Degree requirements: On track for a minimum of a 2.2 Bachelor’s degree in any IT or Computing Science, Business Management & Analysis, Science, Security, or Engineering discipline.

The Digital Advantage practice help our clients solve business problems through digital technology. We provide complete problem lifecycle management from intervention through to problem resolution to our clients across Energy, Transport, Utilities, Defence and HM Government.

You’ll be working alongside our senior consultants or architects who are recognised as trusted advisors in supporting clients on their digital maturity journey. You’ll be involved in supporting key initiatives either within our practice development or working with our clients to aid them in the delivery of their digital transformation projects. We’ll support your development and provide opportunity to work within our sub-teams aligned with your area of study and interests.

Nuclear and Power:

Degree requirements: On track to achieve a minimum of a 2.2 Master’s/MEng degree in Maths, Computer Science, Physics, IT, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Geography, GIS, Geospatial, App Development, Information Technology & Communications, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Control & Systems Engineering, or equivalent.

As a Software & Digital Engineering placement student you’ll support the development of and deliver innovative digital solutions across the full project lifecycle in line with our four digital pillars: reality capture, design, site delivery and asset management. Our teams work closely with our clients to offer and develop these solutions across many challenging projects with these solutions ranging from mechatronics and robotics to coding and software development, as well as generating visualisations with immersive media support such as Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality.

Our locations include most major disciplines and with them, as a placement student, you will be involved in developing innovative and practical solutions for our clients across the UK and further afield. You’ll work with our project and technical leads as well as our clients to capture their requirements as well as working with colleagues across the Atkins group to develop proposals for new work.

You’ll support the development of and deliver innovative digital solutions across the full project lifecycle in line with our four digital pillars: reality capture, design, site delivery and asset management. Seeing you work with business leaders as well as lead teams in the delivery of tasks as required ensuring they are delivered to time and quality.

Your team will help you continuously improve and develop your skills, learn new things and keep up to date with the latest developments in the industry.

We’re increasingly adopting integrated agile design techniques that rely on the seamless exchange of information and data exchange across a wide range of production and delivery platforms. Common Data Environments that allow data to be at the heart of what we do are increasingly common.

As an ever-growing business we’re seeking to develop talented and passionate Information Managers to join our Engineering team. As part of this placement, you’ll be given an opportunity to gain experience in managing how our digital content is produced, stored, shared and exploited using the latest technologies and practices. You’ll be part of a team responsible for challenging our typical conventions both internally and with our clients with the aim of delivering our projects much more effectively. You’ll gain experience in digital engineering and the wide range of tools and technologies being used in the industry, helping to shape our own vision on how we might all work more effectively.
