Academic Requirements - 5 GCSEs including a B/6 in Mathematics & C/5 in English Language and Double Science + 120 UCAS points including Mathematics and Physics or a stem related subject.

Based in our Bristol office, you’ll be studying towards an Electro-mechanical engineering degree as part of the Advanced Engineering Delivery and Consultancy practice, which is part of our Aerospace, Defence, Security and Technology division.

In the Advanced Engineering Delivery and Consultancy practice, we lead the delivery of nationally significant advanced engineering programmes and transform the delivery of our clients’ engineering services.

We offer our clients a range of technically based capabilities along with a range of advanced engineering skills, which we apply across the full lifecycle from concept to disposal to make our clients’ assets safer, more sustainable and more efficient.

We apply a multidisciplinary and systematic approach to our work as there is rarely a black & white solution to our clients’ challenges. Engineers from all disciplines come together to create innovative solutions, working from both holistic and technical viewpoints to capture all aspects of a client’s problem. We need engineers who think laterally, approach problems in a systematic way and can collaborate in a team with members of varying skillsets and diverse backgrounds.

As part of the Advanced Engineering Delivery and Consultancy practice you will be provided with an excellent support network to allow you to deliver the highest quality work, develop as a professional engineer and make a real impact on the work you take part in.

During your apprenticeship you will have the opportunity to work and gain experience in the following teams within the Advanced Engineering Delivery and Consultancy practice:

Systems Engineering

At the heart of Systems Engineering is a passion to problem solve, use holistic thinking and develop innovative solutions to make a difference that benefits the world around you.

You will work with teams across mission-critical industries, contributing to the security and resilience of the nation, and by exploiting advanced technologies you will help clients meet, and embrace these exciting times. As part of an integrated team, you may engage with customers to capture User needs as a set of robust requirements or may develop ways in which systems can be successfully validated and tested. Another core part of the role includes generating and developing Systems Architectures using Model-Based Systems Engineering software tools with support and guidance from experienced Systems Engineers. These tools allow you to model systems using diagrams to optimise the effectiveness of the solution and support the communication of complex concepts in a compelling and straightforward way.

Within all of this, innovation is at the forefront of everything we do, so all the while you will be constantly challenging the status quo, whilst thinking of novel ways of working and new opportunities.

Mechanical Engineering

The Mechanical Engineering team work on a variety of exciting projects across both the Aerospace and Defence markets. The nature of the work is extremely varied and often requires complex solutions to solve technically challenging engineering problems facing our clients. From initial design concepts for new products, to qualification testing, certification and in-service support, we are involved at all stages of a project. Our wide range of skills and capabilities span numerous disciplines including classical and finite element stress analysis of composite and metallic components, systems engineering, fatigue and damage tolerance analysis through to composite and metallic design. Whatever your passion, you will be joining a high-end engineering team working on ground-breaking projects.

Recent projects that we have supported in these sectors include submarine nuclear propulsion design, dockyard design support, nuclear handling equipment and blast doors for a new defence facility, large aircraft landing gear continuous product development, aircraft wing design and certification and composite test support.

Working across design, systems engineering and structural analysis, we are looking for people who are digitally equipped to face the future needs of the market.

Resilience Engineering

As part of our Resilience Engineering team you are able to work with teams across multiple sectors - making the world, systems and infrastructure Safe, Secure and Sustainable through Safety Engineering and Asset & Data Analytics. Resilience is the capability of systems, equipment and infrastructure to protect against safety, environmental and security/cyber threats throughout its lifecycle.  We analyse, assess and develop requirements to mitigate against these threats, providing assurance to our clients.  A critical system is any system whose 'failure' could threaten human life, the system's environment or the existence of the organisation which operates the system.

Applied throughout the lifecycle, Asset and Analytical Engineering is a consistent, systematic and iterative process, used to maximise equipment availability at optimal whole life cost.  Asset Engineering is focussed on influencing equipment design for support, such as, maintenance access, use of existing tools/test equipment and facilities. Analytical Engineering is digitising and utilising complex data to support effective decision making.
