I’m Kwazi Nokwabuza, junior engineer at Kentz, a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group. I am fortunate to be one of the top ten graduates chosen for SNC-Lavalin’s 2018 Graduate Engineering Development Program (GEDP). It’s a rotational program that includes practical experience, formal in-house tuition and relevant external training.
What is the team like at Kentz?
Being part of this team has been a great experience. I’ve been given so much support from the team here. Thanks to them I’m achieving my goals and exceeding my expectations. It’s been challenging at times, but I am grateful for the opportunity!
What have you been learning on the program?
I’ve gained so much knowledge about the technical aspects of being an engineer on site, as well as learning about the different departments within the business. So, I now have a clear understanding of how the company operates as a whole. I’ve learned how to use the correct tools for planning, monitoring and executing a job, and how to communicate effectively with internal and external clients. I’ve been able to work on various project sites, and encouraged to manage teams, leading by example.
What next for Kwazi?
Being part of this organization has made me feel confident about my future. I feel I have hugely improved my business and technical skills, and my next step, with the company’s support, will be attaining my professional registration.
