From offices in over 50 countries, SNC-Lavalin's employees are proud to build what matters. Our teams provide world class engineering services in a variety of industry sectors, including oil and gas, mining and metallurgy, infrastructure and power.

In 2011, SNC-Lavalin acquired international rail consultancy Interfleet. On January 1st 2016, Interfleet changed its name to SNC-Lavalin Rail & Transit and fully-integrated with the SNC-Lavalin brand.

The SNC-Lavalin Rail & Transit team has global capabilities and offers end-to-end services across all types of rail and transit systems. We can develop the concept, design, build and finance as well as operate and maintain. Our consultancy team has specialists working on rolling stock, infrastructure, rail control systems and strategic transport advisory services.

SNC-Lavalin is a leader in the provision of assurance services (certification, safety, compliance) to the rail industry and is seeking high calibre individuals to enhance this service area. This is an ideal opportunity for individuals wishing to develop their career, whether or not from an assurance background, in an organisation that will provide wide-ranging opportunities across all rail systems.

The Opportunity

The rail industry has an increasing number of ongoing projects for new-build and modified rolling stock, infrastructure changes and signalling upgrades. Many of these projects implement comprehensive assurance processes to achieve regulatory authorisation, or to gain the approval of asset owners and operators.

The assurance role offers the opportunity of working in a wide variety of technical areas. Such engineers are in high demand, have excellent career prospects, and enjoy a high variety of work.

SNC-Lavalin requires a flexible and adaptable person who is keen to develop professionally. The successful candidate will be a leader in the delivery of assurance assignments, coordination of technical assessments and formal feedback to clients and, either by acting as Project Manager or supporting other Project Managers across a variety of projects, ensure projects are delivered in line with the agreed requirements.

Expectation

To successfully deliver this role you will be expected to:

  • Develop and maintain good working relationships both within SNC-Lavalin and with clients (including networking to create new relationships);
  • Manage the expectations of clients and other affected parties and be able to present a compelling case when suggesting ideas both technically and in relation to the management of the project (for example timescales and costs), ultimately helping work towards sensible agreements;
  • Manage and resolve any conflicts that may occur on a project in an appropriate manner and ensuring that attitudes remain in line with SNC-Lavalin expectations for its employees;
  • Ensure client’s expectations are met and exceeded throughout project delivery, including leading others within the team to achieve this goal;
  • Understand the culture of the client, SNC-Lavalin’s culture and values and enable these to work together;

  • Provide best-in-class solutions to clients as would be expected from a national or global authority, in one or more key specialist area;
  • Production and review of documentation such as bids and various key project deliverables (typically in Ms Word, Excel or pdf format);
  • Develop (with appropriate support and experience) with the aim to expand the role to incorporate additional technical competencies, enabling review of additional areas of technical compliance and management of more complex projects;
  • Identify opportunities and develop compelling business cases that support the continued success of SNC-Lavalin;
  • Inspire and actively lead and mentor other more junior engineers within the team through guidance and transferring knowledge and experience to develop their abilities.
  • Be a leader (and lead by example) for others with regards to meeting SNC-Lavalin’s processes, policies and values;
  • Be a lead contributor (including sharing views on best practice) to improving internal processes, sharing solutions that further develop the wider business, sharing knowledge and providing technical steer, and developing the skills and complimentary abilities of the team.
