Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Cultural Resources Group as an Archaeological Principal Investigator. The preferred location for this position would be in either our Denver, CO, Henderson, NV, or Reno, NV office locations.

This position is open to part-time temporary candidates and is expected to soon grow into a full-time permanent position.

How will you contribute to the team?

  • Serving as the Archeological Principal Investigator on desktop and field based cultural resources projects.

  • Serving as the primary author on technical reports, research designs, and other technical documents.

  • Collaborating effectively with other cultural resource professional, environmental professionals, engineers, and project managers.

  • Overseeing technical aspects of field research, data collection, inventory, analysis, and final report production and ensuring it is conducted in accordance with the Atkins QA/QC protocol.

  • Supervising, mentoring, and supporting field staff in all aspects of their responsibilities.

  • Project and task management duties such as managing scopes and budgets, preparing proposals, interacting with clients, and managing staff.

What will you contribute?

  • This position requires a graduate level degree of MS, MA, or higher in Archaeology, Anthropology, Cultural Resources Management, or a closely related field.

  • At least 5 years of experience as an archeological Principal Investigator in Colorado, Nevada, and/or other western and/or southwestern states

  • Experience working with History in Colorado, Nevada SHPO, other western state SHPO’s, USFS, NPS, and BLM to successfully obtain and completing survey permits on public lands.

  • Archaeological Surveys, Documentation, Excavations, Testing Reports, and Data Recovery Plans.

  • Training or experience with project management or task management (of cultural resource tasks on larger interdisciplinary projects) is desirable.

  • Experience with NEPA studies including cultural resource components of Environmental Impact Statements and Environmental Assessments (EIS/EAs).

  • Experience assisting with cultural resource business development and client relations is desirable.

  • Experience with projects and disciplines in sectors that align well to multiple Atkins' business units and service lines is preferable. 

  • Relevant sectors include but are not limited to transportation; energy; water resources; ports; coastal restoration; local, state, and federal government; commercial and industrial development; etc.

  • Candidates must have knowledge or experience with a sufficient subset or combination of the following activities: Archaeological investigations, surveys, testing, monitoring, and mitigation

  • Candidates must meet the Secretary of the Interior's professional qualification standards and must qualify as a Principal Investigator on federal, state, and local cultural resource permits.

  • Candidates must have demonstrated knowledge and experience with National Historic Preservation Act regulations (including Section 106) and other federal, state, and local regulatory requirements pertinent to cultural resources.

  • RPA certification is desirable for candidates but not required.

  • Travel may be required per project requirements.

SPECIAL SKILLS

  • Excellent technical and interpersonal skills required.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.

  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail, technical writing, computer, and communication skills.

  • Ability to appropriately scope and budget various types and aspects of cultural resource projects for archaeological survey, testing, data recovery, reporting, and curation.
