Join us by building a carbon free future.

Are you a committed, connected and enthusiastic individual who will naturally bring knowledge and experience of mature and proven data analytics solutions from other sectors to lead our growth in this area and transform the way we deliver Net Zero commitments?

Within SNC-Lavalin’s nuclear and power business, we’d love you to help with driving digital transformation across our teams and the wider industry. As part of this you’ll find increasing opportunities to improve safety and efficiency through the use of data science; and new opportunities to leverage data and gain more insight using data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence.

These include the use of machine vision to identify defects and asset condition, deployment of data analytics to advise clients on proactive and predictive maintenance strategies and integrating data science to improve business performance and delivery.

Your purpose will be:

To constantly be looking for ways to help and serve others, prioritising client engagement and winning and delivering work, principally in the UK, Europe and Middle East. And you’ll be energised by developing innovative technical and commercial solutions for the deployment of data science on our clients’ projects. You’ll enjoy finding the right balance between technical innovation and commercial viability.

You will bring a balance between technical knowledge and strategic awareness to develop and deliver a strategy and market plan to grow a nuclear and power data science business. You’ll be known for paying attention to the wider context and bigger picture alongside your in-depth knowledge of the application of data science, AI and machine learning to solve complex problems.

You’ll enjoy creating the conditions for people to grow and develop for themselves in order to develop capability to deliver integrated solutions. This may include a combination of upskilling, recruitment, partnering and other strategic growth options.

To support with all of this, you will:

  • Develop innovative technical and commercial solutions for the deployment of data science on our clients’ projects, assuming project director roles where required.
  • Influence our ability to win work through how we manage data - and do amazing stuff with it that clients will pay for and no one else can do!
  • Support delivery of SNC-Lavalin’s wider nuclear digital transformation strategy, working with colleagues in the US and Canada, and connecting with digital, products and technology teams around the world.
  • Act as a figurehead for data science in our sector, engaging with journalists, conferences and exhibitions as required.
  • Work with sales leads and marketing teams to publicise capability internally and externally.

What you can bring?

  • A love of technical leadership in the field of data science with excellent knowledge and experience in data analytics, AI and machine learning and operational research, ideally within high hazard or safety critical industries (but this is only desirable). You will be curious and have an impulse to learn and master new technologies or bring fresh thinking from other sectors.
  • A natural drive to generate new business opportunities and provide oversight to ensure client needs are met.
  • A visionary attitude, looking to the future, which will enable you to develop and deliver strategic growth plans and measure outcomes. You’ll combine this with strong business and communication skills, both to negotiate with clients and partners and to deal with external stakeholders with ease.
  • And you’ll thrive on managing staff and innovation projects, working collaboratively across regions and organisational boundaries.

We need you to:

  • Be educated to degree level, or equivalent, in engineering or technical field. Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer science, Computer Engineering or other related degree. A Master’s degree in relevant background is preferred.
  • Have knowledge/experience on/with statistical programming languages, including R, Python, SQL, etc. to process data and gain insights from it
  • Possess multilingual coding knowledge/experience: Java, JavaScript, C, C++, etc. and experience using and developing data architectures
  • Have knowledge of Machine Learning Techniques, including decision trees learning, clustering, artificial neural networks, ensemble method, deep learning etc., and their pros and cons
  • Offer knowledge and application experience in advance statistical techniques and concepts, including, regression, distribution properties, statistical testing, etc.
  • Be able to travel as required (while maximising the use of virtual technology and recognising the current local and global travel restrictions!)
