Where could I work?

Location: West Lakes/Whitehaven

Requirements: 5 GCSEs including a B/6 in Mathematics, B/5 in English Language and a Science subject and 3 A levels at Grades A*-C including Mathematics and Physical Science or their equivalent (Full details). Although the requirements may differ on the website, please be aware that the grades listed above are the requirements for Atkins.

Location: Birmingham
Requirements: GCSEs including a B/6 in Mathematics & C/5 in English Language + A Levels at grade BBC or equivalent, to include Maths and a STEM based subject (Full details)

Further details of this apprenticeship can be found here. The Learning Provider for West Lakes/Whitehaven is currently outlined as Lakes College and for Birmingham, it is currently Aston University but please note this could be subject to change depending on availability.

Apprentices will work with a variety of teams, join us and you can expect to be involved in a variety of projects:

Energy

Westlakes – Based in our Westlakes office on the edge of the stunning Lake District, our team supports clients within the Nuclear industry to deliver innovative solutions in a challenging environment. You will be part of our fast- evolving EC&I team who strive towards using cutting edge technology in a diverse range of projects. Recent projects have incorporated the design, specification, integration and substantiation of all three aspects of EC&I engineering. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in the nuclear sector and is passionate about incorporating digital design into their work.

Birmingham – Based in our Birmingham office as a electrical engineer, you will find yourself working on projects in the Nuclear, Offshore Wind, and Grid & Electrical Networks. Some of our current projects include electrical design and verification of the offshore windfarms, grid connection studies for embedded generation projects and conventional generation plants. Design and failure investigation of industrial installations, protection settings and design of new battery storage schemes. We’re looking for candidates who have a keen interest in supporting power system projects and occasional work at client sites across the Energy sector.

During your 5 year apprenticeship, no two days will be the same as you study and work with a variety of teams whilst developing the skills you need to enjoy a great future at Atkins. Spending either one day a week at the college or doing block weeks. Not only will you learn in the classroom, you’ll enjoy being part of the team as you will get involved with all kinds of projects and learn something new every day.
