High Speed two is an exciting project linking London, Birmingham and the North of England. Atkins are looking for an experienced Built Heritage specialist to be the Built Heritage Advisor for Phase 2b, which covers the route north of Birmingham, from Crewe to Manchester, and from the West Midlands to Leeds.  

The role will be as a full time will be based in High Speed 2’s offices in Birmingham with occasional meetings and site visits at other locations, as needed.  

The role will involve acting as the Built Heritage advisor to Phase 2b of the HS2 project, providing advice on all aspects of the project relating to the historic built environment. The successful candidate will provide technical support to colleagues as part of a large and complex multi-disciplinary project team, review technical documents produced by HS2 and their subcontractors, including, but not limited to Environmental Statement chapters, and method statements, and will participate in stakeholder engagement and respond to stakeholders as required.

The candidate will have experience in supporting Listed Building Consent applications and will be experienced in writing historic environment chapters for Environmental Impact Assessments and Heritage Statements, and will understand British historic environment legislation and policy. Previous experience in using HE, DMRB or ICOMOS guidance in assessing the impacts of infrastructure projects would be desirable.  

Essential Criteria:

  • Degree or postgraduate qualification in heritage-related subject
  • Demonstrable experience in working in the historic built environment in the UK
  • Support and/or authorship of EIA chapters, Heritage Statements or Conservation Area Appraisals
  • Membership of IHBC at Associate grade or above, or Associate and above CIfA membership (or a substantial record of activity at equivalent levels of professional responsibility).

 

Desirable criteria:

  • Experience of work on major and/or linear infrastructure projects
  • Supervision of historic environment work
  • Driving license
