Atkins Ireland is a member of SNC-Lavalin, one of the world’s leading providers of engineering professional consulting and support services with offices across Ireland.

Atkins Ireland is seeking to recruit a Business Development Director, based in Dublin, Cork, Galway or Dundalk. The following describes the requirements and rewards of the role.

Understand the marketplace and align with our business plan.

Identify new business opportunities obtained through developing customer and market intelligence by building strong professional networks and customer relationships with a wide variety of clients.

Work with Business Unit Sector Managers, Business Development & Strategy Regional Directors, and Practice Directors to identify opportunities.

Undertake competitor analyses and identify current and potential new players.

Undertake reviews of national and local development plans to understand the aims of our clients and how these will manifest as projects.

Participate in strategic planning with the leadership team including development of growth plans for the Irish Business Unit.

Pursuits:

  • Communicate with and engage company technical experts and operations personnel to develop solutions to customer challenges.
  • Participate in and coordinate development of capture plans.
  • Engage with potential partners and our supply chain to form winning teams, teaming partners, and subconsultants.
  • Identify teaming partners, develop teaming agreements, and obtain appropriate internal support and approval.

Other Functions:

  • Determine Clients to be included in the Key Account Management (KAM) Program and mentor and coach KAM team members.
  • Coordinate with the communications team on social media campaigns, thought leadership, and media content.
  • Manage overall budget for business development and proposal spend for pursuits.
  • Develop annual projections of revenues/costs and update/monitor for monthly business review and quarterly forecasting.
  • Manage the go/no-go process.
  • Provide oversight to ensure compliance with reviews and required approvals.
  • Negotiate teaming agreements, scopes of work, contract types and business models that are consistent with the company’s risk profile and that result in favourable financial outcomes.
  • Understand, in broad terms, government contracts and business planning activities. Engage corporate resources (e.g. Legal, QSSE) to ensure contract terms and conditions are appropriately understood and managed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements of the role:

  • Education equivalent to Bachelor’s degree in Sales, Marketing, or Management, or the equivalent in related work experience, demonstrating a proven track record of sales for products in a consultancy industry.
  • 10+ years of business development in the Engineering Services market.
  • Knowledge of the Irish marketplace, key Clients, partners and delivery methods.
  • Self-starter requiring limited oversight.
  • Strategic thinking.
  • Effective team building and collaboration skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Affiliations with professional societies and active industry and community involvement preferred.
