Chief BIM and Digital Engineering Lead

In our Infrastructure Ground Engineering Practice, we have a great opportunity for a Chief BIM and Digital Engineering Lead. In the role you will drive forwards our Digital and BIM capabilities, particularly in the areas of 3D modelling, data integration, process standardisation and automation. You will combine significant experience of 3D modelling with knowledge of Digital and BIM developments and a good appreciation of the ground engineering or civil engineering design process. At Chief level, you will work alongside the senior management team in providing informed, strategic input to the ongoing development of our business.

The Chief BIM and Digital Engineering Lead will coordinate digital and BIM initiatives within the Atkins Ground Engineering business. Primarily, the role will be project and client focused as we aspire to continue to deliver innovative digital solutions to address our client’s needs.  

We have offices throughout the UK and depending on the skillset and experience of the applicant we may consider locating the role in one of our UK hub offices (Epsom, London, Birmingham, Bristol, Warrington, Leeds & Glasgow), although other locations may be considered.

This is a crucial role to the Ground Engineering business therefore you will need to demonstrate a proven track record of team management and project delivery.
 
You will take responsibility in the overall leadership and management to several existing Digital Innovations and technical support to the Design team;
Mentor, supervise and train staff;
Be flexible & adaptable regarding both client & project requirements

Candidates will have the following skills and experience:

• A strong technical capacity in Geo-Digital Engineering or relevant civil engineering field;
• Prior management experience with a track record of leading a CAD/BIM team;
• Applied knowledge and experience of BIM principles as applied to civil engineering projects;
• Knowledge of implementation and utilisation of industry-leading document management systems such as Bentley ProjectWise, Autodesk BIM360 and other similar platforms;
• 3D modelling experience with preference in AutoCAD Civil 3D or other software platform;
• A strong digital knowledge with experience of delivering innovative technical solutions on projects and remaining close to clients;
• Ability to drive technically led sales focused to sell digital solutions and help deliver growth;
• Ability and desire to work on a diverse range of projects, good organisation skills, able to prioritise and manage tasks effectively;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate well with senior engineering staff about project objectives and details.

As the Chief BIM and Digital Engineering Lead you will be responsible for the continued development and training of our UK workforce. This includes the development and delivery of training focused on the evolving principles of BIM. You will also implement a training programme which looks to upskill our engineers in the use of 3d modelling software such as Civil3D, evolving the core skillset of our engineers as we embrace the digital age.

Desirable criteria
In addition to the core requirements outlined above, the candidate is requested to address relevant experience in relation to the following specific tasks where possible:

Knowledge of Geotechnical data management standards and software, including AGS, Holebase and Keyhole
Experience of developing relational databases with experience in the development and application of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) between industry software platforms.
Be an active member of thought leadership groups in the BIM/Digital arena, including as example the UK BIM Alliance or Digital Built Britain.
