We are one of the regions most respected engineering contractors in Oil & Gas, working on some of the regions most complex, high profile projects. As we head towards 2021, there are many exciting opportunities for us in this region, particularly in Abu Dhabi. As such we are looking to strengthen our engineering team to help deliver engineering services to our clients.

Main Purpose of the Job

Leads one or more engineering teams within a mega-project or multi-site project environment.  Each team of Lead Engineers, Engineers and Designers will execute the full range of engineering works for sub-projects within the Mechanical Static equipment discipline.  The Chief Engineer manages and advises key supervisory members of the engineering team(s) and is responsible for planning, scheduling and coordinating the work across the entire discipline scope.  Responsible for identifying potential pitfalls, bottlenecks, risks, challenges and opportunities in the execution and for managing the engineering teams to maximize overall performance in the key project indicators - budget, schedule and quality.

Job Objectives

  • Ensure effective communication and coordination within the Mechanical team(s), across disciplines and across functional departments to ensure mutual awareness of requirements and schedules as well as efficient sharing of information and common resources.

  • Support the project team(s) in their relationships with clients, PMT/PMC, vendors, subcontractors, partners and satellite offices.  Interact and coordinate where necessary.

  • Prepare engineering control documents including Mechanical deliverables lists, manhours estimates, change order estimates, project programs, IDC coordination and reviews.  Maintain and monitor adherence to these control documents.  Forecast trends, anticipating and documenting problems which may lead to difficulties in meeting cost or schedule milestones.  Work within the project team(s) to address, minimize or eliminate the effects of these problems.

  • Implement, monitor and maintain productivity targets for assigned team(s), including overtime, budgeted manhours and management of scope changes associated with Mechanical engineering and design.

  • Conduct routine meetings with supervised staff to discuss project and group performance with respect to target objectives - productivity and quality.

  • Implement staffing development plans and assign staff to specific tasks within assigned projects.

  • Conduct technical quality audits on various jobs.

  • Prepare technical literature for training.

  • Prepare lessons learned on various jobs executed.

  • Preparation of standards / specifications for the discipline.

  • Assume other duties as may be required by the company from time to time.

Skills / Qualifications

  • BSEng or equivalent Mechanical Engineering Degree from an accredited University.

  • Minimum of 20 years’ experience within the Oil and Gas industry, of which at least 10 years are in handling FEED projects.

  • At least 3-5 years in a similar position.

  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of industry practices, tools, codes and standards as applicable to the discipline.  Tool knowledge must be hands-on, expert user level.

  • Able to perform as a Technical Authority in the Mechanical Static and packaged equipment discipline.

  • Interface with ADNOC Discipline Specialist and Project Management Team to support or resolve technical issues and queries.

  • Experience working for ADNOC projects would be preferred.

  • Should demonstrate engineering leadership ambitions through completion of additional training in leadership, management and/or project management.

  • Must have Middle East experience.

  • Have experience in Upstream and Downstream projects at different Stages (FEED/EPC).

  • Good knowledge on the Quality requirements such as Inspection & Testing requirements at Factory and Site.

  • Experience in reviewing Key Deliverables prepared by Mechanical team or produced by other work-share offices;

  • Thorough knowledge of industry practices, codes and standards applicable to Mechanical engineering. Tool knowledge must be hands-on, expert user level.

  • Previous experience of Specifications preparation

  • Excellent Verbal/Written Communication Skills in English
