Atkins is one of the largest engineering and design consultancies in the UK, in Europe and one of the largest design firms in the world.
Our Asset Performance and Solutions team is one of the largest in the UK with clients including high-profile utility companies, local authorities and independent businesses.
We are currently looking for an ambitious Clean Water Engineer / Modeller to join our dynamic Water Infrastructure team in Edinburgh. Experience/Awareness of network modelling and civil engineering would be advantageous but not essential, as full on the job training will be provided.
The successful candidate will help us to deliver a suite of successful projects to our UK clients. This role will involve working on feasibility studies, using computer analyses typically to identify water infrastructure improvement projects, undertaking site visits/field testing and liaison with clients, contractors, stakeholders and other professional bodies.

Requirements
The candidate should be a highly motivated, competent, and analytical person with an interest in clean water network modelling, design and analysis.
The candidate should be an excellent team player that works well on own initiative and possesses excellent communication skills.

The candidate should also have:

  • BSc/BEng/MEng degree level, engineering, geography, GIS, Science Related subject or equivalent considered
  • An interest in the water environment and sustainability and desire to apply your skills to the challenges the water environment faces
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Excellent communication Skills – oral and written

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work as part of a team to support the lead engineer / modeller to:

  • Development of computer models based to enable scenario modelling to be undertaken
  • identify and assess hydraulic deficiencies in the water infrastructure network and inform the outline design of improvement schemes
  • Interacting with our overseas based teams
  • Analysis of data
  • Support development of reports and other project deliverables
  • Undertake site surveys and field testing
  • Prepare (and adhere to) health and safety risk assessments

The Individual

The successful individual should be willing to learn and develop technically, working towards a professional qualification. They will be self-motivated and demonstrate an ability to work with others in a variety of project roles. They should also have:

  • Positive outlook and approachable manner.
  • Ability to be flexible and to be able to multi-task and prioritise when necessary.
  • Well-motivated, able to work as part of a team or on individual assignments when required.
  • Full clean UK driving licence

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance.  If this is necessary, it will be discussed with you at interview.
