There’s so much more to being an electrical engineer at Atkins than first meets the eye. As an Electrical Engineering placement student, you could be collaborating on a variety of projects. You’ll continually innovate and broaden your skills. And you’ll help us to lead from the front in an environment where you’ll never stand still.

Join us and you could be involved in tendering, procurement and the delivery of critical projects at nuclear power stations. You could help to survey and maximise the performance of electrical distribution systems at wastewater plants. You could develop lighting and power systems for buildings of all shapes and sizes. Or you could electrify rail lines, upgrade stations or look at everything from CCTV and passenger information to track-to-train communications. Whatever your ambitions we’ve a role to match your passion and degree, while our training will help you develop highly sought-after industry skills.

Where could I work?

As an Electrical Engineering placement student, you could find yourself in one of the following business areas:

 

Nuclear & Power

Industrial year locations: Bristol, Epsom, Glasgow
Degree requirements: On track to achieve a minimum 2.2 Master’s/MEng degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Electrical Control and Instrumentation, Control and Instrumentation, or any other Electrical related degree.

We are the team that engineer, deliver, manage and decommission nuclear facilities worldwide, using the latest technology solutions to ensure the lights stay on and the world remains a safe place.
Our power business has been delivering electrical, civil and structural engineering services to the global power sector for over 20 years. We’re now leaning into new energy challenges such as offshore generation and transmission, energy from waste, electric vehicle infrastructure and the integration of smart grid technology - helping to drive evolution in the power sector.

With an unwavering commitment to safety, quality and efficiency, we are well positioned to add value to today’s challenges of delivering the next generation of nuclear power plants while at the same time maintaining the existing generating fleet and safely decommissioning legacy facilities. We’re now looking to the future, working with Small Modular Reactor (SMR) developers to advance new designs and developing digital applications, such as virtual and augmented reality, for the nuclear industry.

Infrastructure

Summer placement locations: Epsom (Surrey)
Degree requirements: On track to achieve a 2.2 or above MEng/MSc degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject. We will also consider students on track for a 2.1 or above BEng/BSc in an electrical engineering discipline.

As an Electrical Engineering placement student, you’ll get to see your ideas put into place on the design and engineering projects that keep the world turning. We’re all about making spaces and places work perfectly for people.

• A flexible approach to travel as our projects and training may take you to a variety of locations in the UK and possibly abroad
