Atkins Transportation Division covers all aspects of multidisciplinary design and management from inception to options appraisal through to detailed scheme design and delivery support.  Atkins is one of the UK’s leading multi-disciplinary consultancies engaged in numerous high-profile projects for Clients in both the Public and Private Sector.

We are delivering a wide range of exciting highways schemes across Wales, which will give you the opportunity to develop your experience and support exciting, high-profile projects and frameworks.

This includes the A465 Sections 5 and 6 upgrade, supporting the South Wales Trunk Road Agent, Transport for Wales on their ECS3 Framework, and working alongside local authorities throughout Wales on the SWMWRCES and SEWTAPS frameworks.

We are now seeking to recruit an Engineer to be based in our Cardiff or Swansea offices to support the ongoing expansion of business opportunities within the strategic highways and local transport markets across the UK.

Working in a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, technicians and other professionals, you will be responsible for the delivery of highway designs including producing design deliverables and specifications to relevant standards.

Your experience should demonstrate the successful design of projects meeting programme and budgets targets. Your communication skills and teamwork should be excellent, and you should be self-motivated and able to support project managers and senior engineers in delivering projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Project Team in designing highway schemes.
  • Preparing scheme drawings, from feasibility design through to detailed design.
  • Preparing or checking horizontal and vertical alignments in 3D models.
  • Ensuring tasks are carried out within agreed timescales and budgets.
  • Co-ordinating the highway design process and integrating with other design disciplines within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Working alongside Clients and stakeholders on technical aspects of projects.
  • Keeping up to date with current methods and design guidelines.

Requirements:

Qualifications -

  • Recent attainment of membership to a relevant professional body such as the ICE or CIHT to Incorporated (IEng) or Chartered (CEng) level.
  • BEng, MEng or MSc in Civil Engineering or equivalent.8

Essential Criteria -

  • Experience in delivering civil engineering design to relevant local and UK highway design standards/guidance such as DMRB, Manual for Streets and Active Travel (Wales) Design Guidance or LTN 1/20.
  • A good comprehension of technical standards relating to highways design.
  • Willingness to lead client interfaces in conjunction with other senior staff.
  • Experience in the engagement and management of project stakeholders.
  • Ability to advise clients on technical matters in conjunction with other senior staff.
  • Ability to coach and develop junior team members.
  • A willingness to work flexibly to deliver projects to time and budget.

Desirable Criteria -

  • Project Management experience.
  • Experience in the delivery of local CSR/STEM initiatives.
