Atkins Global Technology Centre (GTC) Transportation Business is looking to appoint Engineering Multidiscipline Specialist roles to support the delivery of complex civil engineering and multidisciplinary designs across a range of major projects. This role will augment GTC offering in the Information Management and Design Management realm of Transportation Projects.

As an Engineering Multidiscipline Specialist, you will work across design disciplines as you undertake the responsibility for coordinating design and its integration. You will collaborate on all technical matters, to ensure that optimum engineering solutions are developed in response to the Atkins scope. You will be an experienced practitioner of Project Management principles, construction management, BIM, and Digital technologies, with proven track record of applying these skills to develop engineering solutions.

This key post will be based out of Bangalore / Gurgaon / Mumbai where we have thriving Atkins offices, which serve all Atkins/SNC-Lavalin regions across the world. How will you contribute to the team?

To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Interface with our clients, to understand scope and agree appropriate delivery approach.
  • Collaborate with a range of Project staff spread across disciplines to ensure design coordination and delivery to agreed scope.
  • Deliver independently where required and be agile to maintain a proactive and visible stance on our projects.
  • Be a collaborative and approachable member of the project team.
  • Chair and actively contribute to internal coordination sessions, clash resolution, design integration reviews and external presentations / reporting to clients.
  • Work with construction teams, to ensure buildability of design. Supervise virtual construction sequencing to mitigate clashes and buildability constraints.
  • Compliance with Quality, Safety, Environment, and governance procedures, thus ensuring work produced is technically accurate and delivered in accordance with the appropriate standards.
  • Supervise and oversee design, modelling and detailing including production of BIM Models and extraction of contractual deliverables directly from the model to form 2D drawings, schedules, setting out, quantities and other agreed deliverables.
  • Supporting the preparation of specifications for construction, technical surveys, and design. Supporting the preparation of tender and contract documentation to various forms of contract.
  • Serve as a reviewer and a technical auditor to ensure technical assurance. Undertake self-checking and assist with technical checks of work undertaken by the team. Provide quality control for compliance to company/project standards of deliverables.
  • Work with the Information Manager and project teams to assist in the development and implementation of BIM strategies, BIM Execution Plans, workflows, and processes on projects in accordance with Atkins Corporate Standards, Client requirements and industry best practice.
  • Provide over the shoulder support for junior staff, mentor and support them through technical training and live project work supervision.

What will you contribute?

Required skills and experience – 

  • Bachelor’s degree holders in Civil Engineering, or other AEC disciplines with minimum industry experience of 7 years. Or Master’s degree holders in any discipline of the AEC Industry, including construction management, with minimum experience of 3 to 5 years.
  • Basic experience, knowledge and skills pertaining to civil engineering, industry standards and application of the same with engineering judgement, guided by principles of Safety, buildability, sustainability, and BIM Principles.
  • Excellent report writing, communications skills and Highly IT literate, excellent command of standard Microsoft office 365 software, knowledge of IT infrastructure and hardware. Excellent skills in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft power platforms, including PowerBI.
  • Preparation of reports such as feasibility studies, method statements, specifications, approval documents, design reports, schedules, construction drawings and bills of quantities.
  • Experience in planning, costing, and monitoring delivery of work packages within budget and programme and a working knowledge of the management of project finances by use of the change control process.
  • Understanding and knowledge of BIM Principles and how it differs from traditional ways of delivering engineering consultancy across capital investment and operational phases. Knowledge of all associated BIM concepts including, Level of Model definition, Information delivery plans, 4D Construction sequencing, 5D cost modelling, carbon foot-printing, virtual reality, machine learning and digital asset management.
  • Possess a steep learning curve and ability to utilise just in time learning principles to rapidly acquire hands on ability in BIM Modelling, BIM / 3D Design Review, and coordination software.

Desirable skills and experience – 

  • Technical proficiency in the use of the latest common CDE systems: Bentley ProjectWise and Autodesk BIM360.
  • Computational / Generative design tool experience such as Autodesk Dynamo or Bentley Generative Components.
  • Hands-on experience of any industry standard BIM Platforms such as – Revit, Civil3D, Infraworks, Navisworks, AecoSIM, Bentley Open Building Designer, Bentley iTwin, Bentley Synchro, Tekla etc.
  • Professional accreditation to the level of an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer or working towards professional qualifications.
  • Algorithmic or computational thinking to automate processes, including ability to develop solutions in Power Automate and Power Apps.
  • Programming knowledge and ability including hands on skills with Python.
  • Hands on Power BI skills including, designing data models to convert raw data to meaningful insights.
  • Create dashboards and visual interactive reports using Power BI. Perform DAX queries and functions in Power BI.

  • You will demonstrate a high level of commitment, flexibility and be eager to accept responsibility and learn new skills, whilst always exercising an active interest in helping to solve technical problems faced by any member of the team.
  • You will act with integrity and professionalism, gaining the trust of colleagues and setting an example to junior staff.
