SNC-Lavalin and our “Minor Warships & Auxiliary Vessels” (MWAV) team is currently looking for a Planned Maintenance Technician (Specification Writer) out of Dartmouth, NS office. Reporting to the Planning & Reporting Supervisor, the Writer is responsible for ensuring all planned maintenance spec documents and reports are accurate and up to date with the ongoing projects.

How you will contribute to the team?

  • Write Repair Specifications
    • Based on the results of field surveys and crew feedback, write repair specifications to return the ships and their equipment to an acceptable condition;
    • Update the specifications to reflect lessons learnt from maintenance activities;
  • Conduct Vessel Surveys
    • Survey ships for structural and mechanical compliance with RCN and IACS requirements;
    • Access all areas of a ship including masts, rigging, confined spaces, structural and non-structural tanks including waste and fuel tanks;
    • Observe the operation of ships equipment and systems to assess functionality and identify failures and degradation
  • Technical Support
    • Provide technical data and direction to Ship Maintenance Coordinator and all team members on repair and maintenance of the vessels

What you will contribute?

  • A minimum Bachelor of Engineering or 3-year technology diploma, with 5 years working experience in the marine environment; or RCN QL6 level of military technical training
  • Ability to write, edit, and review technical engineering reports and documents;
  • Strong understanding of DND procedures and maintenance requirements; 
  • Working knowledge of marine industry regulations and Classification Society regulations (both commercial and military);
  • Experience in managing projects (multiple activities); 
  • Must be fluent in MS Office software, and be able to read/interpret engineering drawings (Typically through AutoCAD)
  • Experience working in ISO 9001, 14001, and 18001 systems, would be an asset; 

Local candidates preferred. Chosen candidate must be able to pass Reliability Clearance with the Department of National Defense.
