SNC-Lavalin Inc., Environment & Geoscience (E&G) is seeking an Environmental Assessment Professional with consulting experience and established client relationships, to play a key role in growing our business in Western Canada. The ideal candidate will have technical and project management experience coordinating multi-disciplinary environmental assessments.

The main purpose of the Environmental Assessment Professional position includes, but is not limited to, providing regulatory and technical support to project managers, senior Environmental Assessment Specialists and clients in support of various projects.  In addition, the Environmental Assessment Specialist will provide mentoring to junior staff and participate in business development initiatives.  The role may include a field component including project site visits / inspections, and liaison with clients and/or regulators.

Responsibilities

  • Senior Project Manager of EA or Regulatory Permitting for major projects to achieve client, project or service objectives.
  • Provides direction to multi-disciplinary teams and sub-consultants on infrastructure developments to create solutions for clients.
  • Primary interface with the engineering design team or construction management team in multiple industry sectors.
  • Advises clients and technical teams on regulatory and permitting strategies for efficient project delivery based on identified risks.
  • Knowledge of current or emerging government policies and related to EA process, stakeholder and indigenous consultation.
  • Leads the development and regulatory submission of environmental deliverables, e.g., EA process documentation, risk register, supplemental technical files such as models, reports, memoranda or consultation materials.
  • Provides senior level review of technical materials including EA process files and technical reports.
  • Key contributor to business development strategy of Impact Assessment and Community Engagement, proposal development, cultivating relationships with existing and new client base.
  • Champion project management excellence through SNC-Lavalin quality and project management policy or systems. 
  • Mentorship of less experienced staff in developing material related to environmental management, EA and regulatory permitting.
  • Development of new and existing client relationships.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive consulting experience with a focus on Environmental Assessment (EA) process and regulatory permitting in BC.
  • Highly experienced in environmental management of infrastructure developments, working with engineering teams during the proposal phase or project design/development, and throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Professional credentials (or ability to obtain) and eligibility as a Qualified Environmental Professional for major projects.
  • Team player, strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Organized, methodical and action-oriented.
  • Practical experience with regulatory processes under CEAA, BCEAA, Fisheries Act, Navigation Protection Act, Disposal at Sea Regulations; or with OGC and the National Energy Board.
  • Technical specialist but also able discern when to draw upon the expertise of other applicable technical staff.
  • Proven track record developing client relationships.
