Overview

The M25, despite the busiest motorway in Europe, comprises a huge, connected area of undisturbed woodland and grassland habitat which provides valuable habitat for a wide range of biodiversity.  Often these areas offer the only viable habitat for some species and form an ecological corridor through urban and intensive managed agricultural areas. At Connect Plus Services we strive not only to protect the wildlife and vital habitats within on the highway verge, but we also aim to manage out soft estate proactively to enhance these habitats to their full potential.

This role sits within a progressive, forward thinking and multi-disciplinary Environment and Sustainability Team. This role will undertake site visits with the Landscape and Arboriculture Team, Ecologists and Environmental Assistant. On the job training will be provided by the team specialists as required and further training in tree surveys and Ecological Clerk of Works will be provided as and when necessary.

This is a great opportunity to develop within this discipline as working in CPS can provide experience, training and assistance to become member of a professional body, such as the Landscape Institute, Arboricultural Association or Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment.

Main Purpose of the Job:

The role will be an integral part of a team of specialists going out on site visits for landscape, arboriculture, ecology and air quality to ensure a safe working environment. They will also conduct depot inspections and undertake simple environmental assessments and environmental site inspections.

Working Arrangements:

  • To be based predominantly on site around the M25 and motorways and truck roads crossing the M25

  • Office work based partly at home and partly in CPS office at Dartford or South Mimms (when it is safe to do so after the Covid outbreak)

  • Occasional night work maybe required to assist with ecological surveys

  • This role is available part time, job share or full time. This is because we want the best people for our roles, and we recognise that sometimes those people are not available full time

Key Responsibilities/Duties

  • Assist with landscape and arboricultural surveys

  • Assist with air quality diffusion tube monitoring

  • Assist with ecological and balancing pond surveys

  • Undertake depot environmental management surveys

  • Undertake environmental site audits

  • Undertake Ecological Clerk of Works role

  • Undertake simple environmental assessments

  • Site visits relating to customer complaints

  • Assist with the development of landscape improvement schemes

Qualifications / Skills / Experience:

  • Degree in a relevant biological, ecological, or environmental management field.

  • Full UK driving licence

  • Basic knowledge of environmental assessment but training will be given

  • Knowledge of GIS

  • Competent in Microsoft Office Applications

  • Current UK driving licence

  • Good time management skills, and ability to act autonomously

  • An interest in developing your career within the environmental management industry
