Expression of Interest

Reporting to the Planning and Reporting Supervisor, the Planned Maintenance Technician will develop and submit for approval, the new and amended Planned Maintenance Routines create by the implementation of Engineering Changes or upgrades. He/she will work with members of the SLDPI team both coast to ensure that all maintenance routines are kept current and the approval of new or amended follows the proper process/procedure. He/she will input the newest approved PM into MIS and ensure that it is scheduled for the required vessels when required. He/she will participate in work groups to improve the process and procedures. Identify obsolete Planned Maintenance routines and proceed to remove them from MIS with newly developed PM or amended routines. He/she will keep the Captain’s Ship’s Book up to date and kept a current copy on the computers each of the MCDV vessels and ensure QHM is aware of the location of this information within Share Point. He/she will ensure all the PM is scheduled and sent to the service provider who has the SOA for the particular vessel and its systems in a timely manner and rescheduled when completed. He/she will bring to the SMC attention if a certificate is due and is going to expire in the near future. He/she will develop the docking packages for all the vessels in the MWAV contract ensuring all lessons learned and remarks mentioned in the last ACS is incorporated into the most current package being developed and particularized for each vessel. 

 This position will involve with the following activities on this coast:

  • Work with the SLDPI team with lesson learned and required repairs are incorporated into docking packages,
  • Replicate each vessel’s system with MIS,
  • Amended PM’s as required and submit for approval following the proper procedure,
  • Assist with monthly CDLR’s requirements,
  • Develop spreadsheets for the aid in analyzing PM data,
  • Submit and track the oil sampling program and inform the SMC of results when received, and
  • Participate in the continuous improvement program within SLDPI and PMO section.

Education and knowledge:  The Planned Maintenance Technician will possess a minimum of two-year technical program diploma offered by a recognized technical institute or certified as a technician or technologist by a recognized provincial licensing body in a relevant field; or Possess a minimum of 5 years, within the last 10 years, of demonstrated practical hands-on experience in a technical data and publication related activity.

  • Project management experience is considered an asset, 
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office software applications, 
  • Sound knowledge of principals of naval architecture is considered an asset, 
  • A working knowledge of the major Classification society Rules, SOLAS and Transport Canada is considered an asset, 
  • Sound understanding of DND internal workings and how its maintenance system works, 
  • Ship construction/repair maintenance experience is an asset, and 
  • Strong team player with the ability to work independently familiarization with ISO 9001, 14001, and 18001.  

Training and Relative Work Experience: 

  • Project management experience is considered an asset 
  • Strong command of Microsoft office applications 
  • Sound understanding of DND internal workings and how it maintenance system works 
  • Familiarization with ISO 9001, 14001, and 18001  
  • A working knowledge of the major Classification society Rules, SOLAS and Transport Canada is considered an asset
