SNC-Lavalin Atkins business seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Orlando, FL Geospatial group as a GIS Analyst.
MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE
Under supervision, performs standard GIS work while developing professional proficiency. The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst is a fully-trained practitioner who possesses full functional knowledge of the assigned specialty, may provide administrative support, and will frequently function independently. The employee must have previous knowledge and skills in operating and maintaining GIS systems prior to assuming the position. Essential job functions include: designing, analyzing, and maintaining GIS applications and databases; general mapping and digital data development; coordinating and performing research of City, county, and other sources of records for information to revise and update the GIS database; installing new software; reconfiguring existing hardware; updating GIS and other operating systems software; and performing file maintenance on GIS databases. The employee is also responsible for preparing technical reports and forms; training associated personnel in GIS system use, updates, and data-processing applications. Work is performed primarily independently, under the direction and guidance of a supervisor, with work products subject to regular review. Experience with GIS in Infrastructure/Asset Management and Transportation Planning is preferred.
JOB DUTIES
Applies standard practices and techniques in specific situations which may include the following:
Conducts data gathering, conversion and analysis of GIS data.
Prepares data documentation or metadata for GIS projects.
Prepares maps and exhibits with GIS data sets.
Participates in client needs analyses.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- B.S. or B.A. or M.S. in Geography, Computer Science or GIS related Environmental Discipline commensurate with hiring discipline. Minimal experience is required of incumbent with directly related Bachelor's degree; no experience required with a Master's degree.
SPECIAL SKILLS
- Technical writing and communication skills desired.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must have a basic understanding of the concepts behind data management in a relational database.
Applicants must possess good technical skills and the ability to think and solve problems.
Successful applicants must possess strong GIS skills with two or more GIS packages one of which being the ESRI suite of products; understanding of and/or willing to learn math/statistical analysis; and solid understanding of RDBMS.
Proficiency with latest versions of ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS for Server.
Competency with ArcPy API.
Experience with Python, SQL, ModelBuilder, ArcSDE.
Demonstrated ability to publish and manage map, feature and geoprocessing services using ArcCatalog and ArcGIS Server Manager
Interest in solving spatial problems using python scripts, models, etc.
