GIS Technician

This position is based out of our Environment & Geosciences office in Burnaby, BC and reports to Senior Environmental Assessment Specialist. It is responsible for the provision of analytical, data management, and mapping support to various environmental projects. This will include map and figure creation, assisting project teams with geospatial issues, compiling summary statistics, querying data, researching source data, recommending approaches to solve problems, scripting solutions and finding ways to increase efficiency and provide quality data management for geo-spatial and non-geospatial data.  This position can be based out of any of our BC offices.

             How will you contribute to the team?

  • Working with and maintaining various data-sets, including provincially supplied GIS data, and internally maintained data-sets (including work with our EQUIS database). Some figures are produced using AutoCAD Map 3D
  • Supporting multi-disciplinary projects by providing data management, analysis, mapping, and other GIS support
  • Generating environmental assessment and remediation type drawings which may include site and utility location plans, cross sections, contour plans and presentation type drawings from project engineer sketches and/or notes as required for various projects
  • Creating 3D visualizations, calculating volumes, and conducting analysis
  • Helping users of the organization ArcGIS Online account including developing Survey 123 forms, Collector maps, and interactive map and applications

    What will you contribute?

  • Diploma or degree in GIS and/or AutoCAD, education in Environmental Science, Hydrogeology, Geography    or related discipline also beneficial.
  • Ideally 2+  years of experience in GIS
  • Proficient with using all or some of; ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, Collector, Survey 123, ArcGIS Pro, EQUIS, AutoCAD Map, Python, SQL Server, R, JavaScript and other GIS, database, and programming technologies are considered a strong asset.
  • Experience supporting, or completing; habitat mapping, environmental monitoring projects, slope stability analysis, air emissions analysis, hydrological, hydrogeological, or other environmental projects will be considered.
  • Experience creating 3D visualizations, calculating volumes, and conducting analysis preferred.
  • Experience with field surveying concepts and techniques, and GPS technology considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with sources of geo-spatial data in BC will be considered an asset.
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced, multi-disciplinary consulting environment.
