The GIS Analyst reports to the E&G Biological and GIS Services Group Manager, who is located in our Toronto office at 195 The West Mall in Etobicoke. The Biological and GIS Services Group is part of the Toronto IACE team. As a member of the growing and diversifying GIS and Biological Services Group, the GIS Analyst, together with the Group Manager, will be responsible for the execution of a variety of GIS projects within the group while maintaining project profitability.

We are looking for multi-skilled candidates with a quantitative background for the position of GIS Technician. GIS Analysts are responsible for discovering patterns and trends through spatial mapping, developing mapping applications and tools and managing a digital library of geographic maps in various file types, among other duties.

How will you contribute to the team?

To perform this role successfully, the individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Implement GIS projects and products in consultation with senior staff to meet project objectives.

  • Provide GIS, spatial analysis, modeling and decision support.

  • Collect, identify, maintain, analyze and integrate spatial data from internal or external sources.

  • Manage GIS project components.

  • Create maps for presentations, technical reports or otherwise.

  • Compile metadata and other documentation.

  • Act as junior analyst on a variety of GIS and environmental projects within the area of technical expertise of the Group, maintaining an average annual chargeability around 85%.

  • Provide GIS technical expertise to clients.

  • Assist in developing project plans in consultation with senior staff.

  • Assist with the development of proposals, qualification documents and other business development related activities.

  • Ensure technical proficiency and quality of project deliverables. Execute technical processes/best practices that ensure the highest quality of technical work is produced within the Group.

What will you contribute?

  • 1 to 5 years of experience in related field such as natural resource or environmental sciences with extensive GIS related work experience and training.

  • BSc. or in a relevant equivalent technical degree in Geographic Information Systems, Environmental Science, or Geography.

  • Understanding and experience working with ESRI ArcGIS (ver. 10.8) suite of software.

  • Proficiency with database programming languages such as SQL, R or Python a plus.

  • Proficiency with Survey 123, and front-end design languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript and various mapping languages a plus.

  • Critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills aid in finding workable solutions to problems without expending unnecessary time and money.

  • Analytical mindset, attention to detail and strong data management skills.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to work on multiple projects and set priorities.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Proven technical writing skills, excellent verbal and interpersonal skills are required.
