Current and forthcoming projects include concept through to detailed design of complex Railway Station buildings with retail units primarily in the United Kingdom, Middle East, South Asia and Europe.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual with experience of delivering large railway projects especially station buildings. Candidates shortlisted for this position would be expected to deliver major international projects both new build and also refurbishment projects.
The candidate shall have a Bachelorâs degree in relevant Engineering discipline from a recognised Institute with a minimum of 20 years of industry experience or Masters from recognised institute with a minimum of 15 years of industry experience. It is essential that the candidate has as a minimum 10 yearsâ experience of delivering international projects.
Responsibilities shall include but not limited to the following:
Â· Technical group leader / specialist with high reputation in the industry.
Â· Responsible for managing large project teams.
Â· Authors high quality technical reports.
Â· Understands technical issues and costs related to selection of complex design features.
Â· Able to present work at Client meetings and deliver high quality presentations.
Â· Applies broad technical experience and knowledge and able to check or critically review work of all those in the project team.
Â· Able to prepare and review project cost estimates for all packages of work.
Â· Fully proficient in structural analysis and design of variety of structures and able to review deliverables for the project.
Â· Thorough understanding of international Railway standards, International codes of practice, Health and safety legislation.
Â· Detailed knowledge of multi-discipline designs and competence with engineering software such as Staad Pro, SAP, SAFE, ETABS, LUCAS etc.
Â· Proficiency in dynamic and static analysis. Develop schematic designs and detailed designs for small to large scale projects.
Â· Carry out checks on the work carried out by junior engineers and AutoCAD technicians.
Â· Ensure effective communication and coordination on assigned tasks between all disciplines.
Â· Ensure designs meet Clients requirements and compliance with relevant Codes of Practice.
Â· Responsible for compliance with Atkins QA/QC procedures and implementation of procedures.
Â· Keeps abreast of latest trends and technologies in the Industry.
a. Monthly reporting to Practice Manager.
b. Resource planning and allocations.
c. Sharing resource between GDC departments.
d. Managing Secondments of staff to UK, ME and HK.
e. Setting recruitment targets and recruiting new staff.
f. Campus recruitment of graduates â generally via team leaders / HR support.
g. Training of new starters - generally via team leaders / HR support.
h. Agreeing budget and programmes for all projects.
2 Line Manager responsibilities
a. Approving timesheets.
b. Approving annual leaves requests.
c. Approving sick leaves & expenses claims.
3 Responsibility for delivery of a wide project portfolio
a. Commercial and programme responsibility for all projects.
b. Checking or Reviewing of deliverables in accordance with Business Management System BMS.
c. Maintain productivity in line with the agreed annual budgets.
4 Tendering for work
a. Supporting UK, ME and HK tenders by committing resources.
b. Estimating fees and programme for packages to be outsourced.
c. Taking lead on tenders for the Indian market.
5 Managing Quality
a. Implementing Atkins Business Management System.
b. Participate in Internal and External Audits.
c. Responsible for consistency & quality of deliverables
d. Capturing and acting upon Clients' feedback
6 Technical Authority
a. Input into steering groups: Railway Forums & working groups etc.
b. Point of contact for technical issues including design and constructability
c. Capturing and sharing lessons learnt
d. Organising training/knowledge sharing seminars
7 Supervising Junior Engineerâs
a. Assisting graduates on company approved Graduate Training Schemes
b. Supporting a number of experienced professional on Career Appraisal Route
a. Producing presentations, capability statements, case studies
b. Promoting Rail team through personal contacts within Atkins & externally.
c. Facilitate writing technical papers and articles for internal and external publications
d. Facilitate writing entries to technical and non-technical competitions
a. Maintain and input the work load tracker
b. Maintain weekly updates of Resources Chart -usually during weekly resources meeting at group level.
c. Ad hock input to Practice Managerâs report to local and UK management.
a. Potential travelling to UK- project based, networking, key rail events
b. Potential travelling to see local clients if applicable.
c. As the work load picks up in Middle East and Hong Kong -potential interface and travelling may be required.
