Head of Engineering - Major Infrastructure Projects - Glasgow

Atkins are looking to appoint a Head of Engineering to oversee multi-disciplinary joint venture teams working across a multi-million-pound, transformational engineering programme of projects. This is a strategic role, responsible and accountable for the successful delivery of engineering services to a key Atkins client.

As Head of Engineering you will build trusted relationships with our clients and joint venture partner organisations; robustly challenging engineering and safety case requirements to ensure that engineering services are delivered efficiently and right first time in accordance with industry standards.

In addition to leading on engineering services, the role of Head of Engineering carries responsibility for influencing the future direction of the programme and for positioning Atkins and the joint venture to secure new work through demonstrating technical expertise, building relationships and adding value.

The role will most likely be based from Atkins offices in Glasgow – although will require regular attendance at our client’s offices on the west coast of Scotland.

Responsibilities:

  • Technical leadership of the joint venture engineering teams

  • Responsibility for the overall management and delivery of technical quality, commercial performance, and ongoing client satisfaction.

  • Lead on the drive to deliver innovation, technical excellence, knowledge sharing, and process optimisation across the programme.

  • Work collaboratively at all levels with client and joint venture stakeholders

  • Provide positive challenge to the client and joint venture teams

  • Selection of “best-in-class athletes” from across the combined joint venture resource pools

  • Succession planning across the programme - ensure effective systems are in place to develop the next generation of SQEP

  • Leadership of and support to strategic bid opportunities

Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience of leading the delivery of complex major engineering projects – particularly within heavily regulated sectors – e.g. defence and nuclear sectors.

  • Experience of managing design projects to time, cost and quality objectives and familiar with programming and earned value techniques

  • Ability to manage and motivate a team and demonstrate positive leadership qualities 

  • Demonstration of clear consulting experience and client centric behaviours; able to effectively interface with clients, internal and external stakeholders

  • Experience of Asset Management and projects relating to extending life of assets.

  • Strong demonstrable commercial acumen. Experience of leading and supporting on work-winning activities

  • Chartered Engineer
