Job Title: Head of Utilities – Energy Networks

About the Project or About the Team
We are looking for an experienced leader to join our Energy Systems business to lead the energy network utilities team. This team in Atkins is responsible for delivery of various design projects in the transmission and distribution, substation design, offshore wind electrical networks as well as exploring new market opportunities with gas and heat network operators.
You will be leading a team of Chief Engineers, Principal Engineers, Senior Engineers, Engineers and Graduates heavily involved in supporting design, project management, design assurance, and technical support to onshore and offshore network companies.
What you’ll be doing
As a member of senior leadership team within Energy Networks, you will lead a team of experts involved in design of the infrastructures for the offshore and onshore the T&D utilities in the UK and Europe.
The projects typically include substation design for onshore T&D companies, grid connection design for onshore/offshore generation projects, substation design (concept/layout/FEED) for offshore wind developers, and technical advisory for the development of projects in this field. In addition, you are responsible to contribute to our strategy for non-electricity utilities (Gas and Heat networks) and grow the workstream in this field.
You will be responsible for growing the team, developing partnerships with suppliers and T&D clients, and enhancing the capability of the team. You will also be expected to maximise the collaboration with wider teams within Atkins and to offer a world-class service to our clients.

You’ll have excellent communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills. You’ll be able to manage client relationships, engage constructively with multiple stakeholders and lead delivery of strategic work initiatives. Through your work you will also help support and shape the development of our future business.
We are looing for someone with:
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Commercial acumen
- Track record of developing and growing teams and personnel
- Experience of the European Energy Market
- Strong project management and portfolio management skills
- In depth knowledge of electricity networks in the UK and Europe, challenges and opportunities in transition to low carbon economy (knowledge of Gas Networks in addition is desirable)
- Experience of infrastructure development market and supply-chain within Energy Sector
- Experience of offshore wind market and electrical packages
- Degree level or equivalent professional qualification.
