Highway Design Technologist

Responsibilities

This position reports to the Manager, Major Roads & Highways

• Processing of project base map and survey information including setting up all project basemap x-refs and creation of the existing ground DTM, conversion of project data between various coordinate systems as required by the project
• Road geometric design, including design of alignments, profiles, superelevation, x-sections, corridor models, DTMs, template cross-sections, grading design, including grading of fills, cuts, retaining walls, embankments, ponds, swales, berms, etc.
• Creation and modification of Civil 3D pipe networks, quantities take-offs and computations as required to produce bill of quantities
• Preparation of preliminary and detailed design drawings including  plans, profiles, typical cross-sections, geometrics and laning, drainage and utilities, spot elevations, signing and pavement markings, detours and construction staging
• Contribution to the technical reports as required

Requirements

• Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized institute of technology
• Eligible for A.Sc.T registration
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in computerized design and drafting of highways, interchanges, and municipal infrastructure
• Experience in BC Ministry of Transportation, BC MMCD, and Alberta Transportation projects
• Proficient in Civil 3D and AutoCAD, familiar with Microstation is an asset
• Good understanding of Civil 3D styles, templates and settings
• Working knowledge of application of TAC, BC MoTI, AT and AASHTO design standards
• Effective communication skills
