Reporting to the Engineering Manager, SNC-Lavalin Defence Programs, the IPKS PM is responsible to coordinate a multi-discipline engineering team located in Halifax NS and Victoria BC for the procurement and integration of the addition of an Integrated Position Keeping System (IPKS) onboard the KINGSTON Class of the Royal Canadian Navy. The IPKS PM is responsible for and provides a project management, technical and contractual pro-active leadership approach to QHSE, project success and client needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply and deliver project management requirements as per the Project Management Institute guidelines and management system requirements.  Provide management and client with routine PM reports covering all aspects of PM;
  • Coordinate the IPKS engineering team of multi- discipline specialist providing services in the field of naval, architecture, electrical, electronic, software and mechanical engineering into supporting the client engineering and project management IPKS Project support needs.  The team work collectively on this project as well as other projects at the same time;
  • Liaise with industry for information on equipment procurement;
  • Work with known OEMs for selected equipment for integration development, installation, testing and ILS coordination;
  • Review and submit for approval to the Engineering Supervisor and Manger all deliverables destined to the client as applicable;
  • Ensure systems are integrated in accordance with applicable regulatory standards, ABS Class rules, Controlled Goods Program, domestic and international trade policies, planned maintenance routine and vessel dossier;
  • Responsible for applying configuration management and reporting;
  • Obtains goods and services for the vessels ensuring best value for money through competition and procurement policies;
  • Provide ongoing support, training and direction to all direct reports regarding federal and corporate procurement regulations, internal procurement processes, SNC-Lavalin’s procurement policy and ISO standards 9001, 14001 and OHSAS 18001;
  • Develops and fosters relationships with federal government clients, DND authorities, suppliers, corporate services and industry management to:
    • Effectively communicate to client and management
    • Identify, understand and resolve contentious issues
    • Establish and manage expectations
    • Keep abreast of and share best practices and lessons learned
    • Update the team on relevant initiatives
  • Enhance the SNC-Lavalin image by actively coordinating a team for project success and highlighting achievements;
  • Establish clear team objectives, ensure their achievement and maintain team cohesion;
  • Provide leadership in solving technical and contractual problems;
  • Manage and oversee the engineering schedule and resource loading through use of professional project management tools;
  • Is willing to travel when required

Qualifications:

  • A university degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline is required; preferably Bachelor of Mechanical or Electrical Engineering;
  • The IPKS PM shall possess a minimum of 5 years of demonstrated professional marine work experience in engineering and ILS within the last 10 years;
  • Proven engineering design and system integration work experience in the marine sector;
  • Hold a valid or in the process of being a professional engineer in the province of practice;
  • Project management skills is an asset;
  • A working knowledge of MS Office and MS Project;
  • Skills related to technical integration, project management, communication, stakeholder relationship management, customer focus, customer satisfaction, people management and leadership, facilitation, negotiation, team work, judgement, decision-making, analysis and problem solving, innovation, report writing and computer literacy;
  • Strong coordination skills with the ability to provide direction and guidance;
  • Strong delegation and time management skills with initiative and follow up capabilities; 
  • A team player with the ability to work under pressure with supervision;
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
