Electrical Engineer

This position is based out of our office in Mississauga, Ontario and reports to the Electrical Engineering Manager. A Junior Electrical Engineer is required to carry out various aspects of electrical system conceptual and detailed level design and associated equipment design and procurement, for various plant systems.  Clients for this work are the various CANDU power plant utilities in Canada and abroad as well as other Nuclear Clients.

How will you contribute to the team?

  • Perform conceptual and/or detailed design of CANDU electrical systems and modifications thereof, including definition of system functional and performance requirements, single line diagrams, definition of various classes of power, general arrangement, protection requirements, environmental qualification and seismic qualification requirements and electrical power system analysis using ETAP,.
  • Perform electrical equipment selection, sizing, and specification for various types of electrical equipment, and produce equipment-related documentation including assessment documents, setpoint calculations, error analyses, technical specifications, etc.
  • Update, and/or prepare electrical engineering design documents, including Design Requirements, Design Descriptions, Elementary Diagrams, Functional Specifications, etc., together with supporting analysis/assessment documents and other design basis documents.
  • Provide input to the CAD designers for preparation of various electrical related engineering drawings such as General Arrangement Drawings, Single Line Diagrams, Wiring and Connection Diagrams, Bills of Materials, etc.
  • Interface with other engineering disciplines and suppliers.
  • Assist in providing responses to technical enquiries from design review team and regulatory agencies.
  • Prepare estimates, schedule and costing for various proposals.
  • Ensure strict adherence to budget and schedule on all assigned tasks.
  • Assist in providing support to engineering groups at site.
  • Deliver technical presentations accurately and effectively.

What will you contribute?

  • University Degree in the field of electrical engineering
  • A minimum of 2 years of pertinent electrical engineering experience
  • Familiarity with electrical system functions, configurations and equipment as used for CANDU plant process systems, safety systems or safety-related systems, or for similar systems in other industries.
  • Site experience in the design, construction, or commissioning of plant electrical systems, for nuclear or fossil-fuel generating stations would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with CANDU procedures and QA programs would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with pertinent CSA, IEEE or related Electrical Engineering codes and standards
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team including other engineering disciplines and technicians, technologists and drawing office personnel.
  • Strong problem solving skills are essential.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Above average initiative, drive and resourcefulness.
  • Proven experience to work to tight schedules.
