The Lead Estimator will organize and manage the execution of the cost estimate deliverable process from initial client meeting through to final client acceptance. Manages the required resources needed to execute a complete and accurate estimate report deliverable in line with client expectations and in accordance with a proposed level of effort. This position may prepare cost estimates for specific disciplines and provide business support to junior staff as directed. This position will be remote with flexibility to travel as needed to a Project Site in Ontario, CA anticipation would be as much as a week a month or up to three weeks a month. This position is based out of Atlanta, GA and reports to the Senior Business Service Director.

How will you contribute to the team?

  • Organizes, coordinates and manages required staff resources to complete estimate report deliverables.
  • Acts as chief interface with client and related project team members and plans for scope of the project based on client expectations, WBS requirements and requested deliverable formats. Sets up project in CATO with agreed upon format.
  • Meets with manager to review Project Detail Sheet and other associated proposal information in order to plan for the proposed scope of services, number of deliverables and the level of expected effort in relation to Faithful+Gould fee structure.
  • Provides guidance to all staff involved in estimate and compiles, issues and follows up on RFIs to the project team in order to resolve technical questions related to the estimate.
  • Reviews project financials including Project Status Report (PSR); updates financials monthly and identifies any potential issues to manager for review and action.
  • Reviews deliverables for completeness and provides overall quality assurance check prior to issuance of report. Reviews benchmark information and provides global check of reports. Summarizes variances and identifies key estimate cost drivers for project team review.
  • Guides estimate and budget reconciliation efforts with Owner and their project construction team.
  • Provides senior level general project management support as necessary (e.g., financial/operational budgeting, consolidation, analysis, forecasting; business development; pricing; billing; key client/consultant relationship management).
  • Performs such other duties as the Supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.
  • Analyzes drawings and other documents and prepares detailed cost estimates.
  • Performs accurate quantity take-offs of available design documents.
  • Obtains accurate and up to date pricing information for databases, contractors, suppliers, etc. to utilize in estimates.
  • Inputs estimate take-off information for specific discipline and develops unit cost pricing.
  • Works with architects and engineers to develop clear understanding of project scope preparation of estimate.
  • Develops relationships with members of A/E firms and project team members.
  • Supports senior staff in ways to make projects more efficient. Seeks ways to improve accuracy and efficiency of tasks.
  • Maintains project documents such as drawings and specifications in an organized and reasonable manner.
  • Maintains and updates data library of costs.
  • Prepares cost reconciliation between two or more estimates and explains variance cost drivers.
  • Prepares such other duties as supervisor deems necessary.

What will you contribute?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Quantity Surveying or a related field, plus four years relevant management experience.
  • 10+ years of estimating experience.
  • Must be highly articulate, have clear and analytical approach to problem solving, and strong decision-making abilities.
  • Must have excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Working knowledge of commercially available construction cost estimating system.
  • Working knowledge of electronic take-off including CAD Measure and Primavera.
  • Understand and utilize Information Technology in the performance of work including Internet, Intranet, Microsoft Windows OS, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Project.
  • A professional designation such as RICS, CCE, CCM, AIA, PE, ASPE, AACEI, CVS, AVS, LEED AP, RA, or any appraisal or real estate licensure is preferred.
