The Lead Power System Planner will be responsible for conducting power system planning and interconnection studies, performing electrification studies, managing study projects, and serving as the primary interface with clients across North America.

How will you contribute to the team?

To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Conduct power system planning and interconnection studies, including load flow, short circuit, and transient stability analyses.
  • Evaluate the integration of renewable energy sources, electrification, and HVDC systems into the power grid, and provide recommendations to improve system performance.
  • Lead study projects from inception to completion, including developing project plans, managing project resources, and ensuring project milestones are achieved on time and within budget.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to understand project requirements and expectations, provide regular project updates, and deliver study results that meet or exceed client expectations.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers to ensure successful project execution and to promote professional development.
  • Keep up-to-date with industry developments, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements related to power system planning, electrification, HVDC systems, and interconnection studies.

What will you contribute?

  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from a reputable university, with a focus on power systems.
  • At least 7 years of experience in power system planning and interconnection studies.
  • Strong project management skills, with experience leading complex projects and managing project budgets.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, colleagues, and project stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop junior engineers.
  • Solid understanding of power system planning principles, interconnection requirements, and regulatory compliance issues.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop creative solutions to complex technical challenges.
  • Experience in the evaluation of electrification, HVDC systems, and renewable energy integration into the power grid with a special focus on offshore wind projects.
  • Knowledge of market simulation software such as PROMOD, Plyxos, and similar simulators is considered an asset.
  • Experience with offshore interconnection studies and processes in the USA is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with substation design studies (grounding, lightning, ampacity, switching, Transient Recovery Voltage, etc.) is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, with a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
