Within Canada, our Mass Transit team has been selected to design and deliver most of the recent Greenfield and Brownfield LRT, ALRT and Light Metro jobs awarded in the last 10 years including the Canada Line, Calgary West LRT, Edmonton North LRT, the Evergreen Line, the Confederation Line, The Eglinton Crosstown LRT and The Trillium Line LRT extension, to name a few.

Our Rail, Transit and Mobility teams deliver solutions that include alignment and track, traction power and power distribution, train control and signalling, and communications. In light of our current and future workloads, our Rail Control Systems practice is looking for a Manager, Train Control & Signalling Systems for Canada region preferably based in Toronto, Vancouver or Montreal. Reporting to our Rail Control Systems, Practice Lead.

How will you contribute to the team?

To perform this role successfully, the individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Technical management of all train control and signalling technologies proposed for bids and deployed on projects, including all hardware and software components.
  • Working with the System Design teams, other Domain teams and the Requirements Management team on specification and delivery of Integrated Systems into overall transit, urban rail and heavy freight projects.
  • Working with Traction Power, Trackwork, Verification & Validation and Fixed Facilities E&M teams on integrating train control & signalling component and signalling within their deliverables.
  • Interface management with other internal disciplines, design teams and external team members (architects, code consultants, contractors, AHJs, major suppliers, etc.).
  • Support of Systems Design in the delivery of Design\Construction documentation.
  • Interaction with Operations and Maintenance teams.
  • Support of construction and installation activities in the field.
  • Support for Test & Commissioning and setting to work of mass transit, urban rail and heavy freight signalling and control systems.
  • Assistance with customer staff training.
  • Assistance with the generation of O&M Manuals.

What will you contribute?

  • P.Eng - PEO in Ontario/similar is required.
  • 10 years of relevant experience.
  • PMP certification would be considered valuable.
  • Able to lead a team of specialists around Canada in line with the “one team approach” principles.
  • Experienced in the design and application of at least one major train control discipline (ATC/CBTC or Conventional).
  • Experienced in the design, integration and deployment of train control systems into transit facilities and vehicles.
  • Experienced in the generation of technical requirements and specifications.
  • Accustomed to operating within a multi-disciplinary project structure with responsibility for systems interfaces and integration.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with limited direct supervision.
  • Accustomed to working on multiple projects at one time.
  • Accustomed to working on design services bids and major project bids.
  • Able to interact within discussions with the partners, clients and suppliers and able to take the technical lead on such discussions.
  • Able to interact with senior staff as technical lead.
  • Able to interact with fellow team members.
  • Able to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Able to work in design office, project office and field environments.
  • Excellent English communication skills. Knowledge of French will be considered as an asset.

Travel

  • Must be willing to travel to project sites.
  • Must be willing to travel to vendor locations.
  • Must be able to work away from home for periods of time.
