The Strategic Highways Market Leader for market Intelligence and collaboration will serve as the programme manager for the Market’s improvement programme. The programme aims to improve project execution from opportunity management to bid stages and through delivery to smooth to close out, building confidence in competitive estimates, eliminating waste, promoting collaboration and behaviour, and ultimately enhance our customer satisfaction and experience.This exciting opportunity could be full time or working flexibly.  Given there are two core elements to the role, there is also the opportunity for a job share and we’d welcome discussion if you feel you have a preference for one of these areas.

Your purpose

The role also includes improving our client intelligence, working with our Key Account Management Teams, sharing intelligence gathering so as to improve the quality of our Client offer. You will:

  • Drive a step change to improve our work working activities.
  • Working across the wider Transportation division, define and execute improvement strategies to embed a culture of lean and problem solving
  • Identify opportunities to enrich client intelligence through upskilling, defining the value stream for clients and process improvements within the KAM community
  • Have accountability for the delivery of their own workstreams

    Furthermore, you will be required to deliver the following:

  • Use lean methodology and systems thinking to get to the root cause of work winning and operational issues including the effectiveness of existing processes and behavioural issues
  • Establish data collection and probe for key areas of improvement
  • Review and coordinate bid feedback from our Clients as part of a ongoing structured improvement programme.
  • Lead on market focussed LEAN programmes
  • Define and establish baseline metrics for current performance i.e. linking work winning with market intelligence and client feedback.
  • Agree baselines and performance measures with each workstream coordinating with the wider business transformation leader. 
  • Designing and delivering a fit for purpose structured business improvement strategy
  • Design workstream breakdown, deliverables and milestones.
  • Design and roll out of programmes for workstreams and sub-projects in a cost-effective and productive way
  • Working with the wider group, specifically support the company’s Digital Futures transformational programme ensuring financial and non-financials benefits are measurable.
  • Coach workstreams on the development of the solutions. Leading on analysis and diagnostics initially on each workstream.
  • Problem solve: workstream issues with workstream leaders.
  • Develop implementation plan with measurable tracking
  • Create material to embed change such as workstream handbooks, coaching plans and training material.
  • Coach the leadership and teams on implementation of operational improvements
  • Work with KAM communities to enhance our client intelligence, knowledge and client offer, including a focus on internal communications across the network
  • Stakeholder engagement and Continuous Improvement communications.
  • Develop and implement stakeholder engagement plan
  • Establish and maintain mechanisms for tracking and sharing client feedback and intelligence
  • Establish a network of champions responsible for continuous improvement and Client engagement, selected for specific, measurable and repeatable, tasks (as opposed to open ended upskilling)
  • Baseline and grow the continuous improvement skills within the wider Market team and ensure they are using the tools, approaches and methods to strengthen the business performance.

    Additional responsibilities of Role

  • Work on normally complex, multi-faceted initiatives with activities including: probing business and customer requirements, conducting client and business workshops to help solve issues, create value, maximize growth and improve business performance
  • Delivering real and measurable results for the business
  • Lead and support the creation and deployment of an approach to enhancing win work improvement, client intelligence and collaboration capability across the business
  • Define problem statements and required outcomes based on cost benefit analysis linked to business goals and implement improvement plans
  • Identifying and quantifying what the improvement team will focus on.
  • Deliver proactive and effective communication related to improvement initiatives. Liaising with the leadership and stakeholders to keep them informed of progress and to make relevant decisions.
  • Identify opportunities to influence the KAM communities to strengthen client relationships and upskill staff to gather improved client intelligence, improving our offer.

    What you can bring

  • Chartered Engineer, Transportation Professional or equivalent
  • Highly motivated and aspiring for the success of the team; a clear communicator with highly developed interpersonal and leadership skills. 
  • Proactive, goal-oriented person with strong organisational, verbal and written communication skills
  • A pro-active decision maker with confident yet diplomatic operating style – someone who deals easily with cultural diversity
  • Lean six sigma experience, preferably blackbelt qualified. 
  • Excellent team player, able to influence technical and delivery staff and collaborate effectively with other divisional colleagues and across Atkins
  • Ability to motivate others in going the “extra mile” to deliver"
