Mechanical Project Engineer

This position is based out of our Calgary, Alberta Building & Facilities office. As part of the Engineering, Design, and Project Management Division, the Calgary Building & Facilities group specializes in providing mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering solutions for all building types ranging from small commercial buildings to complex institutional buildings such as hospitals, universities, and laboratories.
How will you contribute to the team?
- Meeting with owners/architects to outline the scope of building projects
- Reviewing the status of existing buildings prior to project design, performing site take offs
- Developing designs and technical specifications for building systems
- Assisting others in the office with several projects – a knowledge sharing atmosphere
- Preparing drawings and construction documents
- Coordinating system requirements with the mechanical department, architects, relevant authorities
- Conducting site visits and inspections to review progress of construction
- Develop feasibility studies and technical reports
What will you contribute?
- You are a registered Mechanical Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in the province of Alberta
- You have at least four (4) years of directly related industry experience designing mechanical systems (i.e. plumbing, heating, cooling, ventilation, fire protection, controls, etc.) in commercial, institutional, or public sector buildings
- You have strong written and verbal communication skills
- You are able to work semi-independently with only a moderate amount of input/supervision
- You are proficient with Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit software
You bring the following traits, capabilities, or experience:
- Self motivated individual with a passion for mechanical engineering and building technologies
- Strong leadership skills
- Familiarity/competency with the LEED® green building rating system
- Proficient with Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit software
- Proficient with heating and cooling load analysis software such as Trace 700, Carrier HAP or Block Load, etc.
- Proficient with other CAD software used in the construction industry such as Bentley MicroStation, etc.
- Proficient with energy calculation software such as CAN-QUEST, Autodesk Insight, etc.
- A basic understanding of project management principles and the ability to manage your work to meet a given budget
- An understanding of the work produced by other disciplines in the industry including architectural, electrical, civil, and structural consultants
- The willingness to occasionally travel within and outside of Alberta to project sites or to meet with remote design teams
- The willingness to occasionally work overtime hours to meet aggressive project deadlines
