Front-End Developer - Glasgow, Warrington, Birmingham, Leeds, Bristol, Epsom, London

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior front-end web developer with a keen eye for detail to join our growing national Creative Design team. We’re looking for someone with strong front-end development skills, who communicates clearly and persuasively to clients and engages with colleagues. The person for this role would be willing to expand upon their already exceptional skills and learn from other developers and technical disciplines in a high pressure, fast-paced, progressive environment. Supporting the Development Lead by working with the UX/UI team and creative designers to deliver world class engaging websites and web applications. You will be working on a variety of projects for various client's week to week. Our clients include MoD, EDF, Highways England, Transport for London, HS2 and the Environment Agency.

This role offers great scope to grow your experience areas, whether you’re developing front end code for rapid MVPs, or working on a visually striking website. There’s a huge opportunity to bring greater value to our variety of engineering, infrastructure and architectural design projects. You will bring your ideas, passion and problem-solving approaches to help us deliver fresh, digital solutions in the agreed timeframes and budget. You’ll be a team player but confident in working independently, ensuring that delivery is of the highest standard, both visually and technically. You’ll support with managing the team and building a pipeline of work whilst embracing the variety and enjoy buzz of a dynamic working environment.

Developer Responsibilities

  • Developing accessible front end user interfaces based off a design created by our UI team in Invision, Sketch Cloud or Figma
  • Designing engaging user interactions on web pages.
  • Developing robust and scalable back-end services for web applications.
  • Set up and management of servers and databases.
  • Ensuring responsiveness of applications.
  • Working collaboratively with our UX/UI team and project managers in the development of user interfaces by contributing to ideation and problem solving
  • Build strong relationships with fellow developers and be open to advising when you can Seeing through a project from conception to finished product.
  • Designing and developing APIs.
  • Meeting both technical and consumer needs.
  • Mentoring junior team members.
  • Help develop best practices within the team.
  • Be commercially aware as you will be estimating time for projects.
  • Ensure your work is of the highest standard by quality testing for mobile, tablet and desktop.
  • Staying abreast with latest trends in the industry and knowledge in front-end development
  • Happy to encourage change within the department and put forward process improvements.
  • Confident in presenting projects to clients and able to decipher complex technical terms into easy-to-understand terms.

Required skills

  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.

Frontend

  • Knowledge of Agile and Scrum development
  • Excellent in HTML and CSS
  • Strong knowledge of Bootstrap/Materialize CSS framework
  • Strong Knowledge of using Javascript/Jquery plugins for better experience
  • Experience of relevant Frontend JavaScript frameworks, e.g Vue, React, Angular etc.

Backend

  • knowledge of relevant server-side technologies e.g., Node based frameworks, PHP etc...
  • experience creating and working with web services, REST, Soap etc

Databases

  • Experience working with databases e.g. NoSQL/Mongo/Azure Cosmos is favourable
  • Experience with Relational databases e.g. MS SQL, My SQL, Postgres is favourable

Management & Team Handling

  • Comfortable holding client conversations and strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Team management skills

Desirable experience

  • Experience with working with customising SharePoint and working with SharePoint REST Api's
  • Extending SharePoint functionality with workflows, forms, web parts, and application technologies.
  • Experience with working with WordPress and custom development of templates and plugins development
  • C# ASP.net, dot.net core web Api experience
  • Good working knowledge of Scrum and Agile development methodologies.
  • Experience working with cloud-based services e.g., Azure, AWS, Google cloud.
  • Additional  Knowledge on using D3/Greensock library’s
  • Good knowledge setting up managing LAMP servers on Linux environments.
  • Understand and how to set up and configure domain names and DNS.
