Join us as a Safety Engineer in our Nuclear & Power Division, and play a vital role designing complex new schemes to protect our clients' assets. There's no such thing as a one-size-fits-all career plan in Atkins. And with a huge variety of projects to work on, you'll have plenty of opportunities to grow and challenge yourself as a consultant.

Your purpose:

The role will entail providing safety case advice during the design, operation and decommissioning of nuclear facilities and for the production of all nuclear safety documentation as part of the Site Licence Conditions.  This may include the following:

  • Safety Case reports (e.g. Periodic Safety Review, Pre-Construction Safety Reports, LSS, etc).

  • Hazard/fault identification studies e.g. HAZOP, HAZAN, FMEA, etc.

  • Qualitative and Quantitative safety arguments.

  • Design Basis Safety Assessment.

  • Probabilistic Safety Assessments.

  • Support to Engineering Substantiation.

  • Nuclear technology technical reports.

  • Fault and protection schedules.

  • Nuclear reactor technologies.

  • Design Authority technical reports.

Other key aspects of the role will include assisting in the production of bids and proposals and implementing and contributing to safety initiatives. You will also liaise with operators, designers and clients, building a strong relationship with them.

What you can bring?

In addition to having excellent communication, presentation and problem-solving skills you will also be able to demonstrate the following:

  • University Degree in a relevant subject.

  • Technical practitioner able to demonstrate good engineering judgement and with extensive experience in using fundamental engineering skills.

  • Record of delivering technically challenging projects.

  • Experience in safety case production and/or hazard analysis.

  • Able to produce and review/correct high-quality technical reports.

  • Motivated and driven to meet delivery/cost targets without compromising quality.

  • Awareness of their own technical limitations, and using the help and support of others to deliver.

  • Sound commercial acumen.
