Due to ever expanding operational requirements, we have an immediate opening for a fulltime Lifting Technician (Adhoc), working offshore Newfoundland, reporting to the Project Manager.   The successful candidate will support lifting and hoisting relating inspections for all fixed hoists and cranes (monorail cranes, gantry cranes, etc.), loose lifting gear (chain falls, slings, hoists, trolleys, etc.), fixed lifting points (monorails, pad eyes etc.), fall protection and abseiling equipment, lifting hooks and blocks, wire ropes and platform pedestal crane structural components.

How will you contribute to the team?

To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Conduct inspections in accordance with the requirements of CAPP Atlantic Canada Safe Lifting Practice, ASME, DNV and Lloyds Register standards, and all Owner specific requirements.
  • Develop reports detailing the findings for inspection activities for fixed equipment and loose equipment, interpret the inspection findings and make recommendations for remedial work, and for future inspection scheduling.
  • Carry out non-destructive testing on plant, equipment, or structures in a safe, effective, and timely manner.
  • Assess the integrity and safety of lifting equipment and make sound judgment with regards to the suitability of the equipment and its intended use.
  • Perform equipment setup and calibration to comply with industry and company standards.
  • Ensure that all findings are brought to the attention of the appropriate personnel and when required communicate findings to client at the field location.
  • Support development and ongoing inputs to development of associated work methods to meet regulatory and client changes.
  • Keep up to date with changes in relevant standards and legislation, acting as an advisor to on-site client representatives
  • Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all personnel by using systems and methods of work that are, as far as is reasonably practicable, safe and without risk to health or the environment.
  • Advise the Project Manager, Offshore Supervisors, and/or Inspection Engineer of inconsistencies between work practices and written documents.

What will you contribute?

  • Candidates must have 5 – 7 years practical experience (continuous learning) in lifting inspection, testing and re-certification of cranes, fixed gear, and loose lifting equipment.
  • Completion of 2 Year technical program
  • LEEA, CGSB MT, and CWB Level 1 or 2 Certification are essential.
  • Additional ISO9712 equivalent NDT certifications would desirable.
  • IRATA Certification, or willingness to obtain IRATA certification.
  • Certification and experience with inspection of offshore containers.
  • Overhead and Mobile crane inspection certification.
  • Fall protection inspection certification.
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant regulatory codes and standard – ASME, CSA, API.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Willingness to travel occasionally and to work flexible hours.
  • Awareness of and appreciation for the process of Continuous Improvement.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to recognize and resolve conflict.

Additional Information –

  • Pay rates are competency-based and wages range from $675.52 - $1,014.93 per day, pending qualifications and experience.
  • Terms of employment:  Full-time position
  • Work schedule: 12 hours per day, 21 days maximum per trip, number of offshore days will be varied pending client demands.
  • Must successfully complete a medical assessment, fitness for work and all regulatory offshore readiness training.
  • The ability and willingness to continue with higher level professional training and development is an integral focus area.
