SNC-Lavalin Assurance is a leader in the provision of assurance services to the rail industry including certification, safety management and compliance. Our Risk & Safety team’s expertise in the delivery of safety management assignments includes independent review of, or performing risk assessments and developing safety justifications on any proposed changes to existing rolling stock or rail infrastructure. We also support in the development and implementation of safety management systems for operators, maintainers and suppliers to the industry, defining the means for controlling safety within their respective scopes of activity, demonstrating that safety requirements have been achieved.

Our Risk & Safety team are now looking to support our growth plans with the appointment of a Principal Consultant/Engineer. This is an ideal opportunity for individuals who are looking to develop their safety management career in an organisation that provides wide-ranging opportunities across the rail industry.

With an increasing number of projects for new-build and modified rolling stock, infrastructure changes, electrification schemes and signalling upgrades, the industry’s future is increasingly strong. Many of these projects are required to implement comprehensive assurance processes to achieve regulatory approval, or to gain the acceptance of asset owners and operators. SNC-Lavalin regularly undertakes some or all of this assurance process for its clients.

SNC-Lavalin requires flexible and adaptable individuals who are keen to lead the delivery of safety management assignments with the opportunity for them to work across a wide variety of technical operational and management areas for both a local and global client base.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Understand clients’ requirements and how they fit into the wider assurance regime
  • Ensure the successful delivery of assignments from start to finish
  • Manage the expectations of clients and other affected parties and stakeholders
  • Manage the interface with our internal specialist engineering teams
  • Plan, monitor and report progress in client meetings and through formal documents
  • Application of common safety methodologies for risk evaluation and assessment
  • Application of RAMS process and other recognised safety risk assessment methodologies (e.g. EN50126/28/29 and IEC61508)
  • Related project and commercial management
  • Market, product and business development

Requirements:

  • To be considered for the role you will need an engineering or technical degree or equivalent experience as well as the ability to critically assess projects and situations using engineering judgement to identify potential solutions. You will have a system-wide approach to issues and be able to demonstrate an understanding of the impact of changes to their wider environment
  • You will ideally possess technical engineering or operational experience in one or more railway or tramway system, e.g. rolling stock, infrastructure or signalling. It’s also preferred that you would have experience in the provision of Assessment Body, Independent Safety Assessment or other independent review and of conducting thorough risk assessments and/or failure analysis in a highly regulated industry
