Atkins is one of the world's largest global design consultancies providing technical safety services worldwide through our 300 offices.  We are now established as part of the SNC-Lavalin Group. Our Oil and Gas Division is a leading independent supplier of engineering and specialist services to the Oil and Gas industry.
We provide Process Safety consultancy services across a wide range of clients and facilities covering oil sands extraction, gas production, offshore installations, terminals, refineries, petrochemical plants and pipelines, and work on some of the most exciting and varied projects in the sector with a proven track record of providing quality technical support. 
We are looking for a Principal Engineer with the following attributes to join our Calgary Office. 
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Maintaining and developing local client relationships with the major operators and engineering companies that are our core business.• Assignments will include leading teams to support our clients in design project and ongoing asset process safety. • Liaison with other groups and departments within Atkins to provide an integrated solution to the client, which includes process, dynamic simulation, structural, CFD, reliability, environmental, human factors.• Have proven business and technical skills to enable you to contribute to developing the numerous business activities that Atkins provides to the Energy industry.• Providing leadership and quality assurance for reports to clients. • Interpreting client needs and preparing technical proposals to ensure those needs are met.
REQUIREMENTS 
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering discipline, (Chemical, Mechanical, Petroleum, Risk Engineering) • Technical Safety professional with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in oil & gas and / or nuclear safety experience. • Experience working in client facing roles at an engineering consultancy.• Technical competence in undertaking and delivery risk and hazard analysis and risk management, with demonstrated strong skills in one or more of the following:
o Integrating process safety within the design process and/or operating practices.
o PHA facilitation (e.g. What If, HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, etc.) 
o Consequence modeling of hydrocarbon release, dispersion, fires and explosions.
o Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA). 
o Authoring Safety Cases, including ALARP demonstrations.
o Bowtie Analysis
o Fire Protection
• A Professional Engineering license (P. Eng., P.E.), Chartered Engineer (CEng), or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) status is desired. P.Eng (APEGA) in good standing is preferred.• Experience of line and project management • Excellent report writing, presentation skills. • Self-motivating, with the ability to supervise a small team of process safety engineers. • Understands operations and integrity interfaces and has good appreciation of client’s business risk drivers. • A co-operative and helpful attitude to colleagues and clients • Reliable, consistent and mature approach to work • Able to work independently and in small teams • Acceptance of responsibility for work carried out • Flexible in working hours when required
