Principal Mechanical Engineer

The Principal Mechanical Engineer is an integral part of our KENT Houston Offshore Engineering team and will involve the sizing, design of static and rotating mechanical equipment for offshore fixed platform and floating facility projects.  This position is based in our office in Houston, TX with the possibility of up to 10% international travel.

How will you contribute to the team?

  • As part of the Facilities Engineering Team, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will report to the Group Manager and perform duties on various projects.
  • The role will involve the sizing, detailed design, and specification of static and rotating mechanical equipment for offshore fixed platform and floating facility projects (Oil & Gas and Renewables).
  • In addition to sizing and detailed calculations, the role will involve the preparation of datasheets and equipment specifications, the technical review and evaluation of bids, and performing other discipline-specific studies. Work must be performed in accordance with applicable industry codes and standards.

What will you contribute?

  • Candidate must have a B.S. or M.S. in Engineering. M.S. or graduate level technical coursework preferred. This level may be achieved by Engineers with seven years of experience since B.S. or 4-8 years since M.S. Typical incumbent has ten to fourteen years of experience.  Offshore floating facility design experience is preferable, and candidate must have proven technical writing and communication skills.
  • 4-8 years of Oil  & Gas offshore experience is preferred.
  • Perform project design and sketching design concepts to be developed by junior engineers and CAD designers.
  • Plan, develop and review the production of engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Plan, develop and review the production of engineering studies.
  • Develop and evaluate plans and criteria for new projects, weighing alternatives and selecting the most cost-effective solution.
  • Analyze technical problems, assessing the feasibility of proposed techniques and procedures, and devising new approaches and alternative solutions.
  • Analyze project dimension and scope and prepare or oversee the preparation of cost and manpower estimates, schedules, and job budgets.
  • Coordinate work with project manager, and guide junior professionals and technical personnel on the design and drafting of preliminary and final plans.
  • Be responsible for quality control, maintaining quality standards in all work produced, and checking computations or reviewing designs and drawings performed by others.
  • Liaise with Clients, Design Partners, Vendors and Regulatory Bodies.
  • May occasionally manage projects.
  • Perform such other duties as the Group Manager may from time to time deem necessary.
