Are you a structural engineer with significant experience of offshore structure design looking for a new challenge in the exciting renewables industry?  This could be the role for you.

The Team:

Atkins offshore structural engineering capability has been at the forefront of the energy sector since the 1970’s. After originating in the oil and gas sector, an area we are still heavily involved in, we successfully transferred our skills into a growing number of fixed and floating offshore renewables projects, including Wind Turbine substructures and Offshore Substation Platforms.

Our office in Epsom, situated in Surrey, is ideally located within close reach of both central London and the Surrey countryside, and is home to around 70 of our offshore renewable, low carbon and oil & gas professionals. You will become part of a growing team in the Engineering and Consultancy business with opportunities to work across the energy market from Renewables to Oil & Gas.

The Role:

We are looking for Principal Engineers with a strong understanding and experience of structural design and analysis for all types of offshore structures.

As a senior member of the team, you will assume lead roles in the technical delivery of work packages and be involved in developing the capability of a team of engineers.  You will ensure the provision of efficient, high quality structural engineering and also provide advice, leadership and support to colleagues at all levels to help solve technical engineering problems. You will also present your work to clients through reports and presentations.

You will be comfortable working on and leading a range of structural engineering design and analysis projects, either with local colleagues or working as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team located across different offices. You will deliver high quality technical work, ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards as well as internal best practice procedures and contribute to continual development of the design approach and methodology.

The Person:

With excellent communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills, you will be able to build relationships effectively and assist in winning work from new and existing clients.

Comfortable at leading tasks, you are keen to support, mentor and develop the capability of the team. You are also a motivator and take personal responsibility in achieving the best from the team to ensure client satisfaction. You are comfortable and adaptable to working in new and changing environments. You have good attention to detail and are able to make sound judgements under pressure.

You have a strong background in offshore structural engineering with the following minimum qualifications:

  • Engineering degree, honours or equivalent in civil, mechanical, structural, naval architecture or similar.
  • Chartered Engineer with a recognised engineering institution.

You will also have a range of the following desirable experience:

  • History in the Oil & Gas and/or Offshore Renewables sectors.
  • Structural engineering and design experience including two or more of the following –
    • Jacket structural design and analysis.
    • Topside structural design and analysis.
    • WTG coupled analyses.
    • Advanced finite element analysis (both linear and non-linear).
    • Structural Modification & Repair (SMR) – concept and detail design.
  • Experience in the application and management of computer-based engineering tools and software – preferably including SACS, SESAM, USFOS, ANSYS and ABAQUS.
  • Design and assessment of offshore structures to relevant code requirements (e.g. ISO, DNV, Eurocode, NORSOK, API).
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary projects from either a Project Management or Engineering Management perspective.
  • Experience leading a team of engineers to complete design and analysis tasks.
  • Experience in a client (or equivalent) facing role.
