The transportation infrastructure sector is experiencing unprecedented levels of investment and Atkins is playing lead roles in projects to upgrade existing transport networks to deliver future demand including active travel initiatives as well as extensive public transport enhancements. We are also working closely with our clients to adapt to the evolving Covid-19 environment. Our teams are currently delivering exciting and important policy, strategy, modelling and research projects throughout the transportation sector. We are at the forefront of national and international policy making, supporting key decision makers at all levels; and are also supporting the development of cutting-edge technology in the transport sector.

We are currently recruiting talented individuals to help deliver transport planning projects for our expanding client base. With over 300 specialists in our UK Transport Planning business, we have the flexibility and resources to provide our clients with an extensive range of services including transport policy and strategy planning, traffic modelling, scheme appraisal, travel demand management, scheme design and development planning.

The Roles:

We are recruiting a Transport Planner for our Transport Planning business and would like to discuss this exciting opportunity with prospective candidates. We are looking for a skilled candidate with experience in delivering and managing transport planning projects involving economic appraisal, business case and cost benefit analysis, with particular experience of STAG guidance. You will work as part of a wider team analysing and appraising the impact of transport schemes and preparing business cases to justify investment.

The successful candidate will be ideally based in our Edinburgh office although Glasgow may be an acceptable alternative. We support agile working and part-time home working is anticipated. The Candidate:

Successful applicants will be flexible, self-motivated and will be expected to demonstrate the following:

  • Strong analytical, numeracy and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication with strong report writing capability.
  • Ability to work under pressure and proven success in meeting deadlines.
  • Confident team worker with ability to work independently.
  • Experience of working to time and budget constraints.

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate technical skills and competencies commensurate with their level of experience such as -

  • Business case development in line with HM Treasury Green Book.
  • Transport scheme appraisal.
  • Application of STAG, WebTAG and other appraisal guidance.
  • Wider economic and productivity impact assessments.
  • Data analysis and interpretation.
  • Scheme evaluation and prioritisation.
  • Spreadsheet/database modelling.

Successful candidates will have -

  • A relevant transport, planning, economics, geography, engineering degree or similar.
  • A passion for transportation.
  • Ideally, membership of a relevant professional institute.
