Project Manager, Engineering Services, Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station

LOCATION: The position will be based at Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station to support New Brunswick Power operations and maintenance activities.

Purpose of position:

Reporting to the Program Director, Canadian CANDU Nuclear Power Plants Engineering Services, the successful candidate will have accountability to successfully support New Brunswick Power in identifying and executing engineering projects for the operation and maintenance of Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station

How will you contribute to the team?

To perform this role successfully, the individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

Essential functions and responsibilities -

  • Responsible for identifying and developing with New Brunswick Power operations and maintenance staff engineering services for the safe operation and licensing of the Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station.
  • Responsible for supporting the development of engineering services proposals that meet the operational and maintenance requirements of the Nuclear Generating Station.
  • Responsible to oversee with New Brunswick Power operations and maintenance staff the site implementation of engineering services projects.
  • Ensure that the delivery of engineering services meet the intended objectives with sustained effort and focus on business growth within the assigned portfolio.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders, engineering, construction, quality client & subcontractors as required.
  • Develop resource plans and ensure staffing issues are pro-actively managed.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with New Brunswick Power counterparts.
  • Ensure work is performed within quality program requirements.
  • Ensure a strong nuclear safety culture is reinforced continuously.
  • Monitor and mentor resources required to execute scope.
  • Interface with the stakeholders in Project Controls, Procurement, and Accounting departments as required.
  • Comply with Point Lepreau site procedures, e.g. attend periodic Plant Health meetings, daily Station Operations briefs, and other forums that discuss plant performance and improvements.
  • Provide support and recommendations to New Brunswick Power staff on as required basis.
  • Align with Station leadership team and Engineering groups at SNC to identify and plan work targeting improvements in the areas of station performance, reliability, digitization, etc.
  • Identify areas at client site where new features or procedures would be of benefits to other CANDU 6 stations and therefore possible commercial opportunities.
  • Act as link to SNC-Lavalin project teams for retrieval of station data, either via walkdowns, documentation search, staff interviews.
  • Support new contractor set-up, sponsorship, and qualification renewals for SNC-Lavalin staff working at client site or remotely.
  • Establish and maintain interfaces with relevant site support functions to enable effective communication, planning, and management of activities.

Other duties and responsibilities -

  • Provide supervisory guidance to project personnel.
  • Ensure all employees are fully trained for the function they are expected to fulfill.

Fiscal responsibility -

  • Fiscal responsibility as required by corporate Limits of Authority.

What will you contribute?

Knowledge and skills -

  • BSc in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the execution of various type of projects including services projects.
  • Advanced knowledge of CANDU 6 Nuclear Power Plant design, operations, and maintenance.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings, blueprints and specifications.
  • Knowledge of INPO (Institute of Nuclear Power Operation) practices and principles is an asset.
  • Experience working in a live Nuclear environment is an asset.
  • Must have a full appreciation of the importance of Quality Assurance Programs and their significance to the nuclear industry.
  • Knowledge of nuclear project work, financial operations, estimating, and employee relations is an asset.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and customer relationship skills.
  • Excellent Leadership skills.
  • A strong business and technical mix is required in order to understand and influence key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Must have the ability to handle all matters in a confidential and professional manner.
  • Negotiation and dispute resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.

  • A New Brunswick Power Security Clearance is a requirement for this position.
