Project Scientist or Environmental Engineer in Training

Responsibilities

• Perform field work (locally or around the province) as directed, including soil sampling, groundwater sampling, monitoring, well installation
• Collection of background information, participation in field inspections, preparation of reports, including site plans
• Liaise with contractors to plan field work, clear services, complete drilling or excavation assignments based on plan provided by Project Engineer/Project Manager
• Preparation of borehole/test pit logs, site plans, preparation of basic reports
• May give guidance or training to more junior engineers, or technicians assigned to work on a common project
• May provide field supervision for uncomplicated excavations or construction
• Responsible to track schedule and budget based on input from Project Engineer/Project Manager

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (environmental science, environmental engineering) or an Environmental Technologist Diploma
• New grad or up to 2 years of previous work experience in environmental consulting is preferred, e.g. candidates who possess some direct or related experience, in the areas of contaminated site investigation and remediation programs including Phase 1/2, field investigation and monitoring programs, field management and coordination of contractors during site investigations and remedial programs, report writing and interpretation of provincial and federal environmental regulations
• As the position will involve primarily field work, the candidate must be willing to work in variable climatic conditions
• Willingness to travel to project sites around B.C.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills (able to communicate with junior staff, as well as technical report writing skills/experience)
• Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
• Working knowledge of Outlook, Word and Excel
• Valid Class 5 driver's license
