SNC-Lavalin and our “Minor Warships & Auxiliary Vessels” (MWAV) team is currently looking for a QA Technical Writer (TW) (Technical Document Analyst/Controller). Reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager (QAM), the Technical Writer (TW) has a lead role in the MWAV Project’s document management and control processes.  In this capacity, the TW helps ensure that current project documentation meets applicable ISO requirements, as well as aligns with this Business Unit’s worksite activities.  The TW will also assist in quality audits and oversight of the quality program.    

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) both in corporate and project guidance material;
  • Review and update the Integrated Management System’s documentation; 
  • Perform ongoing gap analyses on existing documentation and make recommendations for improvements; 
  • Dialogue with project staff to ensure job steps and workflow are accurately captured; 
  • Update and/or create quality documentation as required; 
  • Assist in ensuring that relevant MWAV staff are aware of and trained in updated/new documentation; 
  • Prepare and submit progress and other document revision reports to the QAM;
  • Assist with MWAV’s three-year audit and review plan, including the coordination of activities; 
  • Assist in management of the Share Point library;
  • Promote continual improvement, especially with respect to MWAV’s guidance documentation 
  • Understand the business unit and corporate processes;
  • Perform reviews to help identify gaps in SLDPI’s existing MWAV supporting Documentation;
  • Assist in realigning those Documents to match workflow, and the three new ISO standards;
  • Create new MWAV-related Procedures, Templates and Forms, as required;
  • Participate in all QA Team Scrums (and inner-office Actions, as required);
  • Assist with revision efforts to transition SLDPI’s Documentation to align with corporate requirements;
  • Assist with revision efforts to transition corporate applicable documentation into SLDPI’s Integrated Management System;  
  • Present progress reports on these transition efforts to team members and management, as required/requested by management;
  • Promote and foster a safety culture; 
  • Other duties as may be required 

Qualifications:

  • University degree in Science, English, or Communications, or a related technical field, or a College Diploma / Certificate in Technical Writing, or demonstrable equivalent training, knowledge, and experience may be considered; 
  • Minimum of three years' experience reviewing, editing, and writing technical documentation; 
  • Formal training from a recognized Canadian college in Technical Writing; 
  • Fluent in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills; 
  • Competent in MS Office 2013 (or higher), including Visio and MS Project; 
  • Possess Reliability security clearance, or capable of obtaining; 
  • Formal training with ISO 9001:2015, 14001:2015, and 45001:2018 Standards is an asset; 
  • Team Auditor certification with ISO Standards is an asset; 
  • Familiarity with SharePoint 2013 or higher is an asset; 
  • Familiarity with Simplified Technical English (STE) is an asset;
  • Familiarity with Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES4 (or higher) is an asset;
  • Must be able to secure Canadian Reliability Security Clearance
