Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our team as a Quality Assurance Director (Civil Engineering/Infrastructure). This position can sit in any one of Atkins’ hub offices within the United States to include Tampa, Denver, Miami, Orlando, Atlanta, Henderson, Raleigh, Austin, Dallas, Houston, Alexandria, New York, or Calverton. 

 
 
MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE
 

The Quality Assurance Director has the responsibility of planning, developing and directing quality assurance (QA) policies, programs and initiatives to ensure work products comply with established quality standards. Collaborates closely with the Technical Professional Organization (TPO) Practice and Operations Directors, Business Unit (BU) Operations Directors, Project Managers, Project Directors and all staff levels. Responsible for the North America region of the Engineering Design and Project Management (EDPM) organization.

 
 
JOB DUTIES
 
  • Establishes and monitors quality control (QC) / QA methods and requirements necessary to meet client requirements, while minimizing the organization’s liability.

  • Leads efforts to establish and maintain a sustainable “quality culture” within the organization.

  • Leads the development of continuous improvement processes and tools as needed to support QA methodology.

  • Oversees overall coordination, development, training, and delivery of the internal quality audit program.

  • Leads the development of quality-related training to educate and teach staff about the EDPM NA quality program.  Conducts quality training.

  • Leads effort to facilitate resolution of internal quality incidents in North America, through use of root cause analysis.

  • Participates in external quality audits and leads resolution of non-conformances from audits.

  • Collaborates with Technical Managers to help ensure that quality documentation and design controls are appropriate for projects.

  • Assists TPO and BU teams by providing QA support as necessary to manage risk to the organization.

  • Participates in business development and client engagement activities related to quality.

  • Acts as the internal point of contact at the global level as the North America region quality representative. Supports global quality-related initiatives as needed.

  • May review studies and reports for liability-related concerns on a selected basis.

  • Furthers job knowledge by studying trends in and development in quality management; participating in education opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining professional networks and participating in professional organizations.

  • May perform such other duties as the Supervisor may deem necessary from time to time.

 


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
 

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field with fifteen years of related work experience. Master’s degree preferred. Experience in a service environment, and as an internal consultant in a project-oriented engineering culture preferred. Experience with universally recognized standards and practices for quality management systems (QMS) applicable to non-manufacturing (service) industries. Experience in development and implementation of training in corporate quality.

 
 
SPECIAL SKILLS
 

Strong networking, interpersonal, teamwork, and collaboration skills required. Strong leadership, management and organizational skills with ability to perform under pressure and to adjust to changing priorities. Expert understanding of how quality principles relate to business protocols and ability to explain the importance of aligning QMS functions to the organization. Ability to prepare and implement strategic plans regarding corporate quality initiatives. Oral and written communications skills are a must. Comfortable with public speaking. Ability to take initiative, maintain confidentiality, meet deadlines and work in a team environment are essential.

 

Requires strong PC skills and ability to work in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Visio and Project.  Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 standard as it relates to service industries is preferred.

 
 
PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS
 

A minimum of one quality certification required (ASQ CMQ/OE, CQA, CQE, Six Sigma, etc.).


Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) is preferred.

 
 
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
 

Travel: approximately 50% domestically; possibly one international trip (UK) per year.
