Regional Head of Landscape Architecture - Birmingham

Due to our current opportunities and strong pipeline of future work we are looking to recruit an exceptional Landscape Architect to lead our 12 strong Landscape and urban design team in Birmingham. The candidate will also be expected to contribute to the direction of wider national practice of around 80, as regional lead for the Midlands. This opportunity would suit someone looking to work in a collaborative environment where they will be given the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, leading and developing a passionate and committed team of Landscape professionals who assess, design and deliver an exciting range of projects.
The workload covers a number of sectors including transport, public realm, green and blue infrastructure, education, housing, commercial, energy, defence, as well as heritage and urban redevelopment. Our breadth of work across these sectors means no two days are the same and you will encounter a lively and varied set of challenges, often within multi-disciplinary teams of highly experienced practitioners.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the performance of the Birmingham team including marketing, financial and business development activities, work winning, including the writing and leading of bids and supporting teams on subsequent delivery
- Inputting to the direction of the national Landscape team regarding business development profile and future workload scenarios
- The candidate is expected to have a strong network of local client contacts within the region regarding work winning opportunities
- Taking ownership of selected individual projects and taking them through from inception to completion.
- Ensuring design responses are deliverable and respond to the client brief whilst respecting the opportunities and constraints that each site affords.
- Client facing responsibilities.
- Review of projects covering design and assessment to ensure the highest standards are adopted
- Strong supportive mentoring and leadership of the local team.
- Communicating schemes in a mixed portfolio of media to both clients and your peers as part of our review processes.
Requirements
- Qualifications to be CMLI with a minimum of 7 years of experience post chartered.
- Proven experience within sectors including Highways, Transport, Public realm Education, Urban Redevelopment. Preferable to have LVIA experience writing and or reviewing.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and communication
- Demonstrable experience of delivering projects on-site.
- Able to deliver projects in a traditional and D&B contract environment; contract administration experience;
- Passion for design and achieving the highest standards i.e. evidence of leading award winning projects
- Experience of producing concept designs.
- Able to draw ‘free hand’ sketches and illustrate.
- Able to participate in design and technical review amongst your peers.
