Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Atlanta, Georgia Aviation Group as a Senior Airport Civil Engineer.

MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE

Under direction, provides the expertise of a seasoned engineer to all conventional aspects of functional area and applies advanced concepts and techniques to unconventional engineering problems. May function as individual researcher or technical specialist. Upholds engineering ethics and standards of conduct.

JOB DUTIES

Leads/supports coordination with diverse design teams comprised of variety of design professionals and multi-discipline subconsultants during design and construction phases.
Develops plans, specifications, reports, and engineer’s estimates for a variety of aviation-related projects, including airside, landside and terminal areas
Oversees design elements including, geometry, pavement design, grading and drainage, utilities, phasing, and erosion control plans
Develops and evaluates plans and criteria for new projects, weighing alternatives and selecting the most cost-effective solution.
Analyzes technical problems, assessing the feasibility of proposed techniques and procedures, and devising new approaches and alternative solutions.
Responsible for quality control, maintaining quality standards in all work produced, and checking computations or reviewing designs and drawings performed by others.
Acts as design representative during project Construction Administration for airside and landside projects, delegating and tracking submittals and RFIs to subconsultants, and attending regular construction update meetings with clients.
May occasionally manage projects. Analyzing project dimension and scope, and preparing or overseeing the preparation of cost and manpower estimates, schedules and job budgets. Performs such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

B.S. or M.S. in Engineering (preferably Civil Engineering). M.S. or graduate level technical coursework preferred. This level may be achieved by Engineers with seven years of experience since B.S. or 6 years since M.S. Typical incumbent has ten to fourteen years of experience.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Good interpersonal skills and capable of developing technical writing, and communications skills.
6-14 years civil design experience in airports preferred however transportation/civil engineering design experience will be considered.
Detailed knowledge of airport design standards and airspace including FAA Advisory Circulars and airfield imaginary surfaces is strongly preferred.
Proven ability to manage large scope operations and provide leadership to multiple levels of management and technical professionals.
Must have business vision, excellent communication skills, and be able to represent the firm effectively to staff, clients, and the community in general.
Strong computer skills and knowledge with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD Civil 3D is required. Familiarity with AviPLAN is preferred.
A strong working relationship with FAA staff and Engineers and Project Managers at Southeastern US Airports is preferred.

PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS

Professional Engineering (PE) license is required.
