Senior Civil Engineer

SNC-Lavalin Inc is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer for our Infrastructure Engineering team out of our Halifax, NS office. Seize an opportunity to have an impact working on a variety of projects that continue to improve not only Nova Scotia and Atlantic Infrastructure, but have the ability to be a part of major projects taking place across Canada (see Trillium and the recently announced Réseau express métropolitain).

The successful applicant must be able to work interchangeably in a team setting, and independently, and will be expected to liaise with professional staff including technicians, engineers, contractors and clients. SNC-Lavalin provides engineering services Regionally, as well as Nationally from our Halifax location. This position provides an opportunity to participate in large infrastructure project though-out Canada and abroad. Professional registration in other Provinces would be encouraged and supported.  

Key Responsibilities:

• Complete front-end, preliminary and detailed design of infrastructure engineering packages;
• Produce civil engineering documents such as, design reports, cost estimates and construction specifications;
• Undertake and oversee various traditional civil engineering design tasks;
• Undertake constructability reviews;
• Perform as either the design field engineer or as the client’s field engineer representative and be responsible for Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) supervision on Civil projects;
• Undertake, contract administration, construction management and design optimization;
• Foster critical relationships with technical and non-technical staff, and technology suppliers;
• Establish and monitor cost and schedule for project deliverables;
• Interface with project teams to develop and implement multi-disciplinary project strategies
• Liaise with clients, regulatory agencies, and contractors;
• Comply with corporate policies, and ethics and safety protocols;
• Identification of general safety, and HSE requirements.

Qualifications:

• University degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution
• Be a member in good standing of the Professional Engineers in Nova Scotia
• Minimum 10 years of experience in: preliminary and detailed civil engineering design, contract specifications and special provisions, and tender documents
• Project management experience
• Project experience in the municipal and government sector (provincial and federal)
• Good understanding of engineering disciplines and knowledge of reciprocal effects of the work upon other disciplines/fields;
• Familiarity with company’s established guidelines, procedures and practices as well as other departments, suppliers and contractors;
• Good understanding of industry and regulatory standards and design criteria;
• Proficiency in a variety of standard engineering methods and techniques;
• Proficient with design and analysis, including use of engineering software such as PCSWMM, XPSWMM, SewerCAD, InfoWater, and WaterCAD;
• Proficient with the use of MS Office Suite and AutoCAD or Revit;
• The ability to practice in a Bilingual environment would be desirerable;
• Eligible Candidate for CISD Level II (SECRET) Clearance (requires fingerprinting).
